Lillibets - Reader Reports & Opinion

Having spent a week on Tobago, we decided to spend the last 2 nights in Castara. We arrived there without having booked any accommodation and, by chance, were offered one of the Lillibets apartments. The owners, Liz and Tom, were in residence and were very welcoming and helpful, making us tea and giving plenty of advice on Castara and the surrounding area.
The apartments are built on the hillside on two levels and accessed via some steep stairs. Tom kindly helped us move our luggage up to the apartment as he was far more used to the stairs than us. Not recommended if you have mobility problems but you would certainly get fit going up and down the stairs for a week.
We had a first floor apartment which was very clean, simply but adequately furnished, with aircon in the bedroom. The kitchen was well equipped for self catering but, as we were only there for 2 nights, our catering was limited to making tea and rum punches! We bought fruit locally for breakfast, which we took sitting on the balcony watching the varied and colourful bird life. It was like sitting in the trees and we enjoyed feeding the birds on fruit and sugar.
Because we were in Castara for such a short time, apart from breakfast we ate all our meals at the Boathouse down on the beach. A very friendly, welcoming place with a nice laid back attitude.
Castara was a great place to end our trip and Lillibets was a good place to stay. We would go back if visiting Tobago again.

Lillibets was by far the the nicest place we stayed at during our trip to Tobago. In addition to Castara, we also stayed in Buccoo and Charlotteville at similarly priced accommodations. Knowing what I do now of the island, I would've changed our 8 day itinerary to only include two locations - a short stay by Pigeon Point and a longer one at Lillibets.
Our drive to Castara was a little bit scary, and that final driveway down to Little Bay is a sharp left and a steep slope. I'd recommend hiring someone local to bring you to Lillibets if you're not comfortable driving on winding, hilly roads. Parking is behind Angel Apartments, and from there it's a well maintained stair pathway to Lillibets. It's well worth the walk, as the view is gorgeous and the greenery outside the balconies are also home to local birds who like to stop to grab a bite on the bird feeders. (They seemed to really enjoy my jalapeno Pringles!)
Our group had both an upstairs and a downstairs apartment. Personally I chose the air conditioned downstairs apartment, but the breeze that Lillibets gets thanks to its location on the hillside kept it nice and cool even when it was off. Mosquitoes didn't seem to be as much of an issue for us up on the hill as it did for some friends we made in the village who were staying closer to the beach. Nevertheless, use the mosquito nets provided, and bring a few laundry clips to ensure good seals if you're as paranoid about bugs as I am.
Try to book dinner at The Boat House if you're in Castara on Wednesday. The set meal includes a main, dessert, unlimited rum punch, steel pans, drumming, and limbo! A fantastic deal and only down the steps from Lillibets.
Thank you Tom and Liz for sharing Castara with the rest of us!

Their hospitality was heartfelt. The apartments (3 in total) were clean, spacious and the view beautiful. We stayed on the top floor.
Tom and Lillibet are the best choice for a harmonius stay in castara.

The owners of Lilibets are a very nice couple who made us feel welcome. Unfortunately, the first night of our stay the hot water went out, and subsequently we were unable to use the water at all. As a result, we had to move to other accommodation, which the owners of Lilibets paid for, since we had prepaid for our three nights.
I would recommend this place to others, but request an upper room (despite the extra stairs) for the best views.

I stayed at Lillibets over the Christmas Holidays a few weeks ago and enjoyed my stay very much. The balcony had a wonderful view of the village and we were steps from the beach. In the morning I enjoyed feeding the birds on the balcony. The room came with a kitchenette that we used regularly although there were also good options for food in the village. Tom and Liz were very welcoming and helpful. I would definitely recommend a stay at this apartment.
