Where 2 Stay
Post Recreated: Originally posted - 20 March
we want to book our accommodation. Can't decide between Sandy Point Village or Toucan Inn. I am veering towards Toucan Inn. We want fairly easy access to good beach, friendly hotel people, and I want a good dive centre (1st time scuba!!). We will be hiring a car but our choice is between these two hotels as we are coming with Kuoni. I have also read very good things about Bonkers restaurant and have heard that sandy point staff are miserable. Can anyone help me out here?! Thank you! Esme

can anyone give me some help with where to stay next year. we were going to book Sandy Point Village for Feb 2004, but have recently read some poor reviews. 2 well travelled adults and 2 quite well travelled kids (6 & 10) need your help !!
Sandy Point Village
We stayed here for the last four days of our holiday and payed $US49.99 including taxes per night for a beach front room. Absolutely great. The room was large and spacious both single and doubles are available (Request when booking which you require) and the apartment also had whicker table and chairs situated by the window looking out onto the ocean. Lovely to sit a while and look at the ocean before you go out for the evening. The rooms were immaculately clean and very spacious and you also had a fridge.
The approach to Sandy Point hotel is via a small raod and it is on the right hand side just past Ru-b-lous and and the complex has a selection of apartments available most of which have a kitchen (only the beachfront ones do not) and some have 2 bedrooms. The One bedroom apartments situated to the rear of the property are available for as little as $US40.00 per night, exceptionally good value. We spoke to many people whom stayed there and all were very happy with the standard of accomodation.
There are a couple of very tiny beaches, however, I suggest you hire a car (No matter where you stay) and go and visit one of the many other beautiful beaches Tobago has to offer. My favourites Back Bay and Englishmans Bay. Sandy point Village is only separated from the runway by Sandy Point beach club but DO NOT let this put you off. Tobago airport is definatley no Heahtrow!
We found all the staff reception, bar, cleaners and security very pleasant and helpful.
I would certainly reccomend this as a good standard, ecomomical base for a visit to Tobago.
It also has a restaurant 'The Steak and Lobster Grille' we did not eat there however it is a lovely setting and we spoke to other couples whom had eatien very good food here.
Do not pay brochure prices for this hotel, book direct and do it indepentdantly it is so much more ecconomical. Great place. Great Value.

My wife and I stayed at Sandy Point Village in May05 and we think that its a great place, and offers real value for money. Its not the first time we've stayed there, and we done other places as well Hilton, Tropkist etc - but we keep going back. The things we like about it is its location (you can walk to Store Bay and a whole bunch of resturants from there, Ruby Lou, Pelican Reef, Cafe Coco etc). The rooms/studios are always kept very clean and the staff, particularily cleaning and reception seem to take a pride in what they are doing and seem genuinely happy with their lot.
Its NOT 5 star accomadation but every thing is at a very good standard for this class of hotel in Tobago. The resturant could do with a few ideas, and also captalise on its location and view. Things to look forward to are the courtsey bus'ette down to Pigeon Point Highlights .... and the managers rum punch party!
