Ranking System

We have ranked every dive shop in each of four categories - Safety Standards (35%) - Quality of Equipment (30%) - Customer Service (25%) and Range of Dive Sites Dived (10%). An overall award has been calculated using the weightings shown in brackets behind each category:

It is interesting to note that 11 of the 16 dive services have been ranked "above average". In fact, five dive operations have scored near-perfect scores of between 4½* (4-star plus) and 5, meaning that 30% of Tobago’s dive services operate to the very highest international standards.*

The information used to formulate the rankings comes from numerous diverse sources. For reasons of neutrality, we naturally try to utilise sources not directly connected with the Tobago dive industry. The rankings are based on the best information at our disposal and offered in good faith. Readers are urged to make their own enquiries to determine the suitability of any establishment.

* Half-points (+) have been used in the overall ranking, but not in the individual rankings.

REGION 1 - CROWN POINT

REGION 2 - LOWER CARIBBEAN

REGION 4 - NORTH END

Name: Office: Comments:	CaribStu No retail premises. Based in Charlotteville. Dives island-wide. The most regularly praised divemaster in the myTobago forums. Previously manager of two of Tobago's top dive services, Stuart Sampson is now offering a personal dive service for both advanced and novice divers.

Name: Office: Comments:	Ron's Watersports & Dive Center 21 Spring Street, Charlotteville Ron is based in Trinidad and only comes over for pre-arranged dives, so booking in advance is important.
Name: Office: Comments:	Tobago Dive Experience Manta Lodge, Speyside One of Tobago's oldest dive services. Changes in ownership and management have resulted in a major turn-around of the company.
Name: Office: Comments:	Tobago Divemasters Main Road, Speyside Have only dived by appointment for the last year or so while Ellis gets his Splash Sport boat operation running, but is now re-directing his attention back to diving.
REGION 6 - SCARBOROUGH
Name: Office: Comments:	World of Watersports Hilton Tobago Golf & Spa Resort Based at the Tobago Hilton Resort & Spa on Tobago Plantations. Has changed ownership in recent years and only time will tell whether the previous high standards can be maintained.

An interesting new dive-related service for 2007 is Oscar Diving Video. Based in Speyside, but available through the island, Oscar Berkenbosch will accompany you on your dive and create a video record. What a wonderful souvenir of your trip to Tobago!
