Hi
We are coming to Tobago next January and hiring a car but don't know what end of the island to stay on.Iam interested to stay in The Sherwood apartments but are they too far away for us to go to the Noth of the Island for Birdwatching and snorkeling a few times. We dont really like all the touristy bits. The only thing is I really fancy those Sherwood apartments.

I think this post is in the wrong forum. Maybe some all-powerful moderator can move it across.

But anyway, to answer your question, how long are you going for? In November/December, we stayed one week at each end of the island, which worked out very well indeed.

We are only there for 10 nights as we are visiting St Lucia first for 10 days. How long does it take to drive from the south to the north.

Hi Kath

Hope you don't mind me moving your message to the General Accommodation forum, but it will be seen by more people here.

To answer your question, it would take about an hour and a half to drive from the Sherwood Park Apartments to the most northern tip of the island. Tobago is only 26 miles long and 8 miles wide and Sherwood Park is very much in the centre of the southern half of the island. It's actually a very good central location for touring the island because you have all the restaurants and facilities of the south of the island, but are ideally situated close to the main roads that will take you up either the Caribbean or Atlantic coasts.

Go for it!

Hi Kath,
A Steve points out the Island isn't that big so you can get round and see it all from one end. The 1 1/2 hours may seem a long time to drive the short distances for those used to motorways but once north of Scarbrough the roads get a bit bad, bends, narrow and a few pot holes.

From memory the glass bottom boat trips from BWI at Speyside for snorkleing and bird watching on Little Tobago Island run around 9:30am and 1pm so you would have enough time to get up from Crown Point. And there are plenty of day trips from the hotels for Rain Forest walks and birdwatching trips.

Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks Kevin
I have booked the Sherwood apartments for the 10 days and if we want to we can just book a small hotel for a couple of days in the north of the Island to see what we want to see. Can't wait.

Dear Steve
Another question for you. If you snorkel from the shore how far do you have to swim out and what beaches are best to go to so not to have to swim out to far to snorkel.
