Tks Brian-see You in Castara in december! By the way, do You have the e-mail of Brian Ferguson who lives to the right in one of the first houses of Castara when entering from the south? His wife is a teacher in Scarborough and he is a fisherman and cook. Have only his address and need to contact him early if possible.

Grocery openings and ATMs around Christmas

Post by Bob Michele M »

Hello Everyone,
We are heading to Tobago for our first visit in about 2 1/2 weeks and can hardly wait! Our flight arrives at 12:30 PM on December 24, and the gent renting us the villa (Parrot Estate) has suggested that we might want to have his gardener do some shopping for us prior to our arrival. We were wondering if Penny Savers will be open when we get out of customs and pick up our car (~2PM)? We were also wondering if there would be any likelihood that ATMs at the airport would be running low on cash when we arrive? We could get $TT in the Trinidad Airport on our layover on the 23rd if need be.
18 days and counting . . . :D

Hi Bob

Penny Savers are open to 8pm on normal days, so you should be fine. If the ATM at the airport is out, then you'll pass the RBTT Bank just half a mile away (on the left after the Coco Reef Resort) where there's a drive-thru ATM. Failing that, there's an ATM just inside PennySavers (this is the least reliable of the three).

Hi Bob,yes Pennysavers will be open-BUT it will be impossible to get in!!!!Last Christmas Eve there was a queue of about 50 or so just waiting for shopping trollies.Take up the offer!Make a shopping list and leave to your gardener-you don't want the stress after having travelled for long hours.Make sure the booze is on the list!Have good time,

Bob,
If you do end up at Pennysaver's and you don't get to a cash machine, the cashiers there are quite at ease with payment in U.S. dollars. We've usually received an exchange rate of US$1 to TT$6, which is not bad. You receive change in TT$.

I remeber it well last year and second this! All we wanted was a pint of milk and something quick for an evening meal and it was total mayhem!

Thanks so much for the advice everyone! We've sent out grocery list and look forward to a relaxing Christmas eve--especially since we remembered to include the rum and beer on the list!
Can't believe we'll be there in just TWO WEEKS! \:D/
