Crown Point Hotel 01 Apr 2003

We stayed at the Crown Point hotel in January following our bad experience at the Tropikist. The holel is run by friendly helpful staff who go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Nothing is too much trouble! The grounds are absolutely beautiful! You can sit outside your accomodation or take the short walk down the steps to Store Bay, the best beach on the island! We spent several days in an apartment and one week in a Cabana, so we had the best of both worlds, so to speak. Both accomodations had self catering facilities which was a definitely plus, as we could cater for ourselves, which we did ocassionally after purchasing fresh fish from the local traders.
We especially enjoyed the Best of Thymes restaurant. The food was excellent and we particularly wanted to thank the lovely, lovely Cynthia for her warm, welcoming, charming spirit. Apart from the delicious food she makes the very best cocktails! Would definitely stay there again. In fact can't wait to go back!! ![]()

Crown Point Beach Vs. Kariwak Village

Hello, A while back you answered some questions on horseriding for me and I have since been in touch with Fiacra & Erica and looking forward to meeting them. I was wondering if you had any input on Crown Point Beach resort. We had decided on Kariwak village as opposed to the more expensive first choice of Coco Reef and then a friend of ours mentioned the Crown Point Beach hotel and its proximity to the beach. Have you any experience with this hotel or can you help me decide between the two. Decisions, decisions
All the best, Annette

I've stayed at the Crown Point Hotel. It's a basic, older & dated hotel but clean.
ROOMS: All rooms have kitchenettes with 3/4 size fridge & freezer, a 2 gas burner hotplate, toaster oven, a few plates, bowls and cutlary; I did find it humorous when I called the front desk saying I couldn't find any dishwashing soap and they said they didn't supply it in the kitchens! Colour TV with cable, remote; A/C. On some occasions have encountered numerous cockroaches (after awhile I simply avoided opening kitchen drawers) and tiny 'bugs' in the bedsheets. Other times, nothing. All rooms have balcony/patio and stunning tropical views.
PROPERTY: The landscaping and scenery is tops. It's mature, cliff-side waterfront with gorgeous views of Store Bay & Pigeon Point, and adjacent (one set of stairs) to one of Tobago's most popular beaches, Store Bay.
AMENITIES: Internet access is slow but available at the front desk for a fee. On-site gift shop. On-site restaurant (food is generally good but be warned the jerk chicken salad is HOT!) pool-side with great view. Pool is basic but lovely and kept immaculately clean. One negative is that it closes at 6pm for the sake of diners pool-side. The bar is on the pool-deck and liquor is good quality. Fruit smoothies are great!
LOCATION: Very convenient, 5 minutes walk from the airport. Of course, be prepared to hear planes. Several Western-standard restaurants within walking distance, local fare served from permanent take-out stands in the Store Bay park (most close during the evening). Recommendations: Take insect repellant. Book 2nd floor rooms if you want to encounter less bugs.
Stay here if basic and serviceable combined with stellar views, beach access and a pool are priorities. Very reasonably priced.
