Hi,

I stayed in the Humminbird for a total of nine nights.

The superior room was affordable, comfortable and above all clean. Made up daily with fresh linen, the only real let down room wise is the chance to have a really good shower. The heaters are mounted at the shower head and low power, so don't expect a hot deluge!

Pool was kept clean, as were the eating area and gardens which were tended to every couple of days.

The hosts left a bit to be desired...if they wanted to talk to you, then you felt at home, if not then they wouldn't give you the time of day. If like me you like a cup of tea first thing, don't expect to be offered, everything hasd to be asked for.

The breakfast prices are extortionate, 8TT for a slice of bacon, the same for an egg and sausage, that's nigh on a Pound for each item! pricey for the 'full monty'.

When all said and done and the gripes put aside, it is a satifactory place to stay, close to the airport, pretty central to the tourist area and easy walk to local beaches and some lovely quiet bars.

Enjoy the island, the local people are smashing. The island itself, lush and beautiful. I tavel with my job worldwide and this is the only place if I had a chance that I could see myself settling in.

If you get a chance to snorkel in the North East of the island - DO IT! This is one of the best places in the world for seeing so many species in such a small area.

My daughter and I arrived about 2.30 pm. in the afternoon and was checked in by the owner Mrs. Montjoy. We were shown into the twin room which I had requested. This was on the ground floor. The twin room had no window, just one big glass door. The room was very small and below expectation. The restaurant was a big disappointment. It was just a small kitchen area with some tables. We eat out all the time that we spent there. The place was very loney and had few guests. The distance from the Hummingbird hotel to Storebay was about twenty mintues walk and we ended up renting a car to get to and from the beach.

Mr. Montjoy spoke to us on a few occassions but from a Trinidadian point of view, they were not very friendly.

We choose this hotel based on its rating as the #1 hotel out of a list. The past reviews was very good but we reliazed that this rating was based on price. This hotel is good for couples who want to get away but not for families. It may be good for foreigners who seemed to be on good terms with the owners but the locals don't get the same treatment.

Mrs. Montjoy stated up front that there was no kitchen available, but based on the price and the fact that there was supposed to be a restaurant, I decided to book this hotel.

I would not recommend this hotel to Trinidadians based on the location, price - $300 for a tiny room is not worth the value, and eating choices.

We stayed several times at the Hummingbird Inn under the wonderful old owners the Watkinsons. The new owners left much to be desired and we WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN NOR DO WE RECOMMEND IT. We booked months in advance and were looking forward to staying there again. BUT, upon our arrival we ended not even staying. The owner (wife) was extremely rude and non-accomodating. Although we spoke on the phone and by email several times, upon our arrival she left us waiting outside in the heat and did not even extend a proper greeting. She made us feel like we were a bother... coldly flipping through her book to find our reservation and telling us that the room would not be ready for hours. Just a few days before we had already discussed by phone our mid-morning arrival due to flight schedules and was told we could leave our luggage in the office. She never mentioned until we were standing there in the office that they charge extra money to hold our luggage... for just a couple of hours! As we were rolling our luggage back out the door to reload into our rental car she muttered something, a full out argument ensued and she told us if we were not happy with the arrangements we didn't have to stay there. We were absolutely shocked and disgusted!

We stayed in Hummingbird hotel for 1 night and I wouldn´t recommend this place to anyone. The receptionist was very rude, a twin room has no window, just one big glass door and there in no regulation of hot water in shower. The mattress seems to be very old and very used.... and there was a mustiness in this room. We planed to stay in this place longer, but due to mould and all this we decided to stay just one night. When we explained politely this situation to the receptionist, she was so rude to us and wanted us to pay for 2 nights instead of 1( we left before check out hour). We were forced to pay 50% of second night although we left before 12am. The nearest beach - Store bay is about 20 min. walk. This place is very close to the runway and if you have a door open you can hear noise from landing or taking off.

We had a Superior Room with a Queen-size bed, on the first floor, with a direct walk-out to the swimming pool area. The room was clean and well appointed. It had a good mattress, bar-refrigerator, TV with great reception and some premium channels, small sofa, 2 sitting chairs, and ample room to hang clothing in a closet. The bathroom was simple with a commode, sink, and shower. Our hosts, Paul & Linda were extremely cordial and accommodating. The Hummingbird Hotel is located in Crown Point, on the SW side of the island. It is withing walking distance of the airport (15 min) and Store Bay beach (20 min). We did NOT rent a car, since we were only there for 4 nights and we used a tour guide for 2 of those days. For the other days, we used a taxi. Still, many individuals should probably consider renting an auto while visiting Tobago. At $65/evening, this has to be one of the best bargains on the island.

Following the advise given on the Hummingbird Hotel home page (hummingbirdhotel.co.uk), we used the services of Simon McLetchie (tobago-adventure.com), a licensed tour guide who offers personalised full day and half day tours which can be tailored to your specific needs. We recommend Simon highly. He is knowledgeable, courteous, and reasonable priced.
