We have just returned from tobago after 3 relaxing weeks, we stayed at the Blue Haven Hotel in room 20. the hotel is beautiful, very clean and the staff are the most friendlist people we have ever met. we had the most amazing view from our room you could stand in the shower or sit on the toilet and look at the sea (never had that experience before). we actually went to tobago to get married and i would recommend the blue haven to anyone thinking of doing the same. we chose our location which was under a palm tree down on the beach, we had an arch which was decorated with palm leaves and flowers to match my dress (pink)and there were petals scattered all around around us, it was perfect! the ceremony took about 20 minutes and the minsister had a wonderful sense of humor which took away our nerves. we had cake and champayne and the manager even did our videoing. when we returned to our room there were rose petals scattered everywhere, im mean everywhere! they had even run a hot bubbly bath and put them in there. this was our dream wedding and it was all thanks to the staff at blue haven.
the hotel is beautiful but i must agree with some of the other comments that i have just read, the resaurant menu was rather limited and we thought very expensive, and the nightlife was non existant, at times we where also the only ones in the bar. the first night we arrived there was a barbque on the beach, it was brilliant good food entertainment and plenty of rum punch. we were told that this was a weekly thing but it never happened again. unfortunatly we forgot to take our driving licenses (maybe this was for the best, the locals all drink and drive) so we had to rely on taxi's to take us to other eating houses as there was no where else to eat, except opposite at the old donkey cart which also lacked atmosphere. however we would definetly recommend a stay at the blue haven the service they provide is excellent and very professional, more than we can say for the rest of the island but thats another story. i cant imagine how people with children got on in tobago as there doesnt seem much for them to do, perhaps we were going to the wrong places, the toured the whole of the island and spent most of the time on boat trips and beaches, which i think children may find boring. but for us it was heaven we had a wonderful time in tobago and hope to return in the near future.

Spent a week at Blue Haven Room 11 in new wing. Well presented room beautiful view. Housekeeping faultless. Hotel in general maintained to a high standard and facilities good.
All staff pleasant and helpfull. Very relaxing atmosphere at this hotel and although fully booked did not experience any overcrowded areas. We were kept waiting quite a while before being taken to our room but Marcia kept us occupied by showing us around - not ideal as our flight was one hour late and all we wanted was to get settled.
Do try the excellent omelettes at breakfast. Just choose your favourite filling and watch it being made before you. A very good selection of food to start the day with. The subdued lighting in the restaurant during the evening meal made it quite difficult to see what was being presented but the food was more than adequate and gave us the opportunity to try some of the local dishes - I really would have liked to have seen all the colours and variety of food I had chosen.
We noted other reviews mentioned locals on the beach playing football, but as with all Caribbean beaches they are not private. Just dont pick a spot to sunbathe on the beach front on a Sunday as they boys will move the sunbeds to set up their mini football nets to play for a couple of hours. Just chill and relax for this small amount of time and enjoy their enthusiasm for sport in the heat. Just remember it is their day off. The rest of the time the beach was ours.
Do make use of the hotel reception taxi booking. Kelly had an amazing car and took us to Scarborough. He met us after our walkabout at the arranged time at the taxi rank opposite the bank and then drove us to see some of the island beauty spots. Very reasonable rate as with all taxis on the island.
Just ask at reception if you want to tour the island. They can sort it for you.
Although we asked every day if it would be possible to have our room check out extended no definite answer was forthcoming and alas it was not granted due to the hotel being fully booked. The reception and bar area are cool and comfortabl if waiting.
Would definitely recommend this hotel for the those looking for a quiet relaxing holiday offering good service, food, rooms and views.
Hope to visit again soon.

My wife and I just returned yesterday from a five night stay at the Blue Haven Hotel. We had never been to Tobago previously, and had a difficult choice when making accomodation reservations prior to our arrival. However, we could not have been happier with the Blue Haven. Thanks to BWIA's behind schedule we were able to clear customs and make their last flight (9:15pm) to Tobago causing us to forfeit our 1-night layover stay at the Marriott Courtyard in Port of Spain. Therefore, now our new worry was arriving without a hotel reservation at 11:00 p.m. hoping for a vacancy. The Blue Haven's front desk staff and manager (Mr. Anderson) went out of their way to accomodate us, relieving our anxiety after a long day of travel. The room was not the same class as we booked for our stay beginning the following day, however, they assured us that they would move us with no problem, which they did in the morning. We were offered a drink upon our unexpected late arrival, and they also had the chef prepare us a sandwich since the restaurant had already closed for the evening. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The view was great all oceanview with a balcony. The property had a game room facility, private pool, access to Bacolet Beach with a beach bar and facilities, massage services, etc. All the staff were extremely nice, courteous and helpful. The front desk assisted us with diving arrangements and massages. We had our own rental car, therefore the location was good for us, being close to Store Bay and Crown Point (15 minute drive) and closer to Speyside (1 hour 15 minute drive). The waves, along the Atlantic side were noticeably stronger but not so much more to make a huge difference. The drive to Pigeon Point or Englishmen's Bay isn't bad for a better beach, but the beach at the Blue Haven was fine. The only downside was that the water was off for a short period one day for repairs, and the maid service failed to provide bath towels two days, but after calling, they were immediately delivered. The food was good, dinner better than breakfast. The wine list was complete. Since we were not on the dinner meal plan, we felt the dinner prices were a little high when compared to local restaurants outside the hotel. The hotel is exactly as promised, a fine property refurbished from ruin to rejoin its luxurious past with movie star prominence. We loved it and would definitely return if in Tobago again.

On august 7th we will arrive at the Blue Haven hotel for 2,5 weeks. Any suggestions to do in these weeks, nice restaurants in the area, trips, best places for fishing and snorkling or diving...
Any idea what the weatherforecast is for the next weeks?
Whos has stayed in Blue Haven lately?
Blue Haven - Our Thoughts 31 May 2005

Hi all
We were in Tobago from 9 May - 23 May, and had a fantastic time. We stayed at the Blue Haven for the first week, and also for one night at the end of the second week.
On the whole, we really liked the Blue Haven, and I've given it a 'very good' in the poll. Things we liked were:
The beach, it's beautiful! It's a really lovely, enclosed little bay. The sea was quite rough the first week, and the waves quite strong, although they had calmed down by the end of the second (although of course the hotel can't control them!).
The pool - there's never anyone in it! (possibly due to the previous point)
The beach bar - nice food for lunch
The rooms - we also stayed in room 20 (someone else on here had too), very nice view, great room. Not only that, but from looking in the brochures, it's the same room as in the photos. That has NEVER happened to me before
The staff - great, friendly bunch. Especially the head waiter, the staff on reception, and the barman (thanks for the nightlife tips!)
The wind - what a fantastic breeze! It was 31 / 32 degrees when we were there, and quite humid on the Carribbean side - lucky we had our balcony to go back to, with a nice refreshing breeze.
Flexibility / helpfullness - all the staff were extremely helpful. One particular point of note was on our return visit, which was our last night. On the day of departure we asked if it was OK to keep the room during the day, so we could have a shower, etc. before going to catch our Virgin flight, which left at 9:00pm. "No problem" was the answer, and we checked out of the hotel at around 6.30pm. Great stuff - I'm sure they wouldn't be able to do this for everyone if the hotel was full, but they weren't, so they did
I'd also say there are a few things that could be improved, most of them aren't really complaints or bad experiences, just things that we thought would help Blue Haven. Again, just our opinion. We thought that the hotel lacked a bit of atmosphere, and was extremely quiet at times. I have no problem with quiet, but when you're the only people in the bar most nights, you start to think the hotel could be losing out a little on potential business. Maybe this is a conscious decision, to keep it quiet, and maybe that suits a lot of people, but we just found it a little stale. Suggestions:
Use of balcony space - Make more of the great space outside the reception / bar - do it up a little bit, put some more lights out there, organise music, events, etc. and open it up to the general public. This is begging to have something done with it.
Bar - Liven the bar up a bit, install a proper music system, and generally make it more appealing. Maybe a happy hour?
Restaurant - food was good quality most of the time, although one meal we didn't think much of at all. It really is a 'hotel' restaurant, not a 'restaurant' restaurant if you see what I mean. With only a choice of 3 main courses (which change daily), meat, fish, vegetarian, it doesn't really compete with the 'pure' restaurants on the island (or, in my opinion, with the restaurant at Blue Waters, which offered greater variety and more authentic local style food). If you're staying at the Blue Haven, unless you're prepared to drive or get a taxi in the evening to go out, there's very little other choice of places to eat (one other hotel just behind it). If it were me, I'd try to expand the restaurant offering, and encourage non-residents to come along. But maybe that's not the hotel's direction.
Anyhow, just my 2ps worth!
