We arrived at the hotel on Christmas Eve after dark, the lobby area was very nice and well kept but unfortunatly it was down hill from there on!The rooms are a good size and well appointed but all the fixtures and fittings particularly the bathroom were old and well used.By this time we were hungry so made our way to check out the choice of restaurants, well there was no choice!and there was very little choice on the menu tonight or for the rest of the week.I think they were trying to feed each guest for about 2 per day.we got the impression most of the staff were trying there best with the limited resources.

I estimated there was never more than 20 guests at the hotel and on somedays probably only ten as some were getting moved to other hotels! by their travel companies, but of courses that did mean it was never busy by the pool or at meal times which was probably just as well. One up side of everybodys disappointment was that it got everybody talking and we did make some friends while we were there and made the best of a disappointing (expensive)hotel and tried to stay cheerful by joking about the poor food etc,but if we had been there longer than 7 days I would have been asking to be moved to another hotel.

Most of the events and amenties mentioned in the brochure were non existent although the spa and its staff was very good . Tobago was a very nice charismatic island with lovely people and would definately go there again but not to this hotel.

The le grand gourlan was a big disappointment as there was no staff to man the swim up bar and on a few occations no one at breezes bar there should have been two choices of resturant for evening meal but there was only one. Some of the senior management left a lot to be desired, where as the other staff where very good.Hotel starting to look a bit careworn in places around the pool as an example.

This is our 3rd visit to this hotel. This hotel suits us perfectly as it is quiet and not too crowded.

The food is excellent, the service is excellent, the rooms are always kept clean with the maids very helpful.

Entertainment in the evenings was acceptable, although on some evenings the acts didnt turn up, but hey this is the basic caribbean not the heavily tourist sites on some of the islands.

When we visited there was a new manager just arrived, he was finding his feet, which explained some of the minor problems.

All in all a very relaxing holiday, highly recommended, although the younger clientel might find it too quiet!!!!

We arrived for our first stay at Le Grand Courlan to find the dusky pink buildings which we had seen on previous visits to Tobago were now bright orange, and looking much better for the change. Our room was large, cool and spotless for our arrival and was kept in excellent order throughout our stay.

The hotel occupancy was low while we were there which meant we were never short of sunbeds or shade, either at the pool or on the beach near the beach bar.

The meals were a really pleasant surprise having read some previous reports; table service for most meals due to the low guest numbers and a decent choice on the menu. The quality of the food was high throughout and the staff were, with just one exception, friendly and efficient.

A buffet was arranged at the beachbar for all the guests of Le Grand and the neighbouring Grafton one evening, and both the quality and presentation were excellent. The highlights were a leatherback turtle putting in an appearance to lay her eggs right outside the beach bar and a little while later we were treated to the sight of a hatch of baby turtles being guided to the sea by one of the local "turtle wardens". The catering manager claimed all the credit for putting on the free show, and no-one wanted to dispute this! A great evening.

The spa treatments were enjoyable and highly professional, with the staff seemingly happy to re-arrange the pre-booked appointments to help us with the planning of our days out from the hotel.

This was a really enjoyable stay and one which we plan to repeat before too long.
