Tanager Ridge House is a modern villa offered for short-term holiday rentals in a secluded residential eco-development on a small hilltop. It sits at the foot of the magnificent Main Ridge tropical rainforest reserve that travels through the heart of Tobago and provides an ever-green backdrop to the south of the property. Looking north to the Caribbean side of the island, between the two quiet fishing villages of Castara and Parlatuvier, Tanager Ridge House overlooks the sea and is only a short distance from the pristine and irresistible beach at Englishman's Bay.
The Villa is on a tree-covered acre of land in a secluded eco-resort occupying a small part of a 400 acre estate. Still under development, the emphasis here lies on seclusion, natural beauty and living in harmony with nature. These hills have been a forest reserve since 1765 when the British crown recognized the connection between forest and rainfall and protected the trees in order to ensure sustainable supplies of water and wood for their fleets. The surrounding hills abound with small waterfalls, constantly lush vegetation and a large variety of tropical birds. They are interlaced with ancient trails which you can follow with the help of professional guides familiar with the unique flora and fauna of the island.
THE MAIN VILLA provides comfortable accommodation for six (6) people. There are three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, two on the ground floor and the main bedroom on the upper level. One bedroom offers a double bed and there are two single beds in the other two rooms. The main bedroom has a queen sized bed. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a bright, open living room, an inside dining area, as well as deep shaded verandahs offering outdoor lounging and open-air dining no matter what the weather or time of day.
THE COTTAGE sleeps two (2) persons. It is close to the main villa and offers a further self-contained bedroom with a Queen sized bed, en-suite bathroom and a small kitchenette. [Plans are in hand for a second bedroom/bathroom in the cottage, and the website will be amended to include the additional accommodation once it is ready for guests.] All bedrooms are equipped with ceiling fans despite the cool nights in the forested foothills. Mosquito nets are also provided although unlike some parts of the island, Englishman's Bay has few mosquitoes. All linen is provided, including bath and beach towels
Stepping out from the cool verandah, you are on a large pool deck surrounding the 13 ft x 33 ft swimming pool. At one end of the pool is a covered bar / BBQ area that makes outdoor cooking irresistible. Your house staff includes Kirk also known as Django who is your caretaker/gardener and Tricia who takes care of the housekeeping three days per week. Due to the distance of the villa from the main road, guests are asked to assist the villa staff by dropping their bags of garbage in the receptacle provided on the main road on a daily basis.
