Cost of wine in supermarkets

Post by LisaJ »

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what sort of price I can expect to pay for red wine, and sparkling wine such as Cava or Prosecco in the supermarkets.....I would probably spend £6-7 pounds per bottle in the UK.....just wondering what the equivalent might be in Pennysavers? Just deciding whether to take a couple of my favourites in my luggage or not!

Thanks

Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Wine is pretty expensive in Tobago, nevertheless you will find a decent variety of wines from all over the world at Pennysavers or Morshead.
Calculate around 80 TTD for a bottle of drinkable red and 130 for sparkling, by the way La Tartaruga restaurant is a good source for fine italian wines and spirits ( yes, you can spend 3000+ TTD for a super tuscan there), they do wholesale and delivery.

Thanks for your super speedy response!

Will buy the red out there but will pack a bottle of my favourite Cava for when we arrive!

I too love wine but has been said ,expensive on Tobago. We take as much as allowed !!
Spirits are cheap so don't bother.
Morshead is your best bet, not a huge range but far cheaper than the cellars of La Tarantuga.

For the cheapest option, go to the wine wholesalers in Carnbee (same building as Pennysavers Pharmacy, in front of Pennysavers Carnbee supermarket). They actually supply the supermarkets so you get it before the supermarket mark up! I believe they are open Mon-fri normal hrs.

Yes Rich, indeed.
Penny Savers in Bon Accord has a separate Wine and Liquor section to your right as you enter the store.
Beers and soft drinks can be found on the opposite side of the store.
