We rented this 4 bedroom Villa for 9 days from Dec 29, 2011 to Jan 7, 2012. We were a party of 6, but it could easily hold more persons if needed. The villa is set in a beautiful gated compound called Tobago Plantations, with other villas, surrounded by a golf course and a hotel called Magdalena (formerly Hilton).

We chose this villa for its security, not for its location. I used to live in Trinidad but the other members of our group were Canadians. We had 2 teenage girls with us so security was our main issue. This compound was perfect for that.

We had also looked at many other villas throughout the island, Bon Accord, Grafton Beach and Mount Irvine. While we were there, we looked at Grafton Beach and Mount Irvine options for future visits and we decided that we will seriously consider them for our next visit as many owners have now made security a major priority and have hired 24 hr security personal. However, one thing to consider is not to choose a place that is too isolated from other homes.

The villa is comfortable and everything works. It is showing the effects of the constant sea blast and the decor is a little tacky with all the fake flowers etc.

In the end, the tacky decor is not important as we are on vacation!!!

The housekeeper is great and she kept things clean and tidy.

One major drawback is that there is no telephone and you have to pay an additional $5 a day for internet service, called Blink-to-go, which can only handle 1 computer at time. We had 5 computers so that was a pain. We have mentioned this to the owner/manager and we hope that they add these 2 services.

The house has a magnificent view of both the sea and the Scarborough. One drawback to staying there at this time of year is that it can be windy and there is lots of sea blast, so we ended up keeping our A/Cs in our bedrooms on full time, to keep it dry and comfortable. Apparently, at other times of the year, Feb onwards, the winds die down. However, it did not stop us from enjoying the pool and sunbathing, just could not eat outside without things blowing away.

There is no beach by the villa, you have to go to the hotel area to walk on the beach, which is just a 5 minute walk. The new hotel owners have renovated the hotel beautifully and have cleaned up the beach. The hotel was not fully open. It was to open mid January of this year. You can now walk for at least half an hour along the beach if you need to. However, the water is rough and not the best for bathing.

Tobago has changed for the better since the last time we visited, which is about 4 years ago. There are lots of places to find good local food. Our favorite take out place is CHEF BBQ and our favorite restaurant is Kariwak Village (make reservations). Great afternoon Bar for drinks is the bar connected with "Plantation Villas" on Grafton Beach. Ivan is the bartender and makes amazing rum punch and daiquiris.

We are definitely planning to return to Tobago very soon

This was our second return to the beautiful Villa Romayne and it will not be our last. The website gives all the necessary details about the villa, what you see is what you get, and so much more! A peaceful environment, friendly and dependable security; clean, spacious and comfortable accommodation and most important, a reliable, trustworthy and responsive staff. No one likes to be on vacation and things stop working, unfortunately it happens in some of the best maintained places. What was of greater significance to us, was the quick response of the staff to remedy any problems and to make us comfy. We were particularly pleased with the security who made their presence known when necessary - one night about 2am we awoke to incessant car horns, it was security alerting us to our car lights forgotten on.Another time, I was standing near the open doorway 11pm or thereabouts, awaiting my daughter who was comming in on the last flight. Security personnel driving past, stopped and insisted they wait with me to make sure all was well. Cable tv does not work very well but for us, (and this includes my 19yr old son), the night sky, sunrise, sunset, the pool, jacuzzi, birds and marine life were more entertaining. You may not be able to enjoy seabathing at the villa, but we watched the antics of the crabs and other creatures on the rocks, we even saw some eels.My son was always exploring the rocks for shells and stones! Also, the golf course is great for early morning walks. If you prefer the beach, Deon can arrange transport to anywhere. We highly recommend this helpful and courteous team for consideration in any of your holiday plans - start with Steve for information and your booking, then Deon will meet and greet you and ensure your every need is fulfilled, Linda and Andell guarantee a comfortable accommodation. No, we do not work for this team, we are simply VERY, satisfied guests. We stayed for 30 nights!

The villa is beautiful and located on a serene cliff area. It is inside the golf course so there are security check points. The security is a bit lax though. All the bedrooms are larger than the average hotel room and all have their own bathrooms. The master bedroom is the only room upstairs. The bathroom has a double sink and a double sized tub. There is a king sized bed and a couch. There is a balcony overlooking the pool and the ocean. The kitchen is full up, everything you'd require is there. There is also a washer and dryer. The pool has a shallow walkway all around.

During our stay, we did encounter a few problems. Two of which could have been prevented by maintenance. The other twp problems was no fault of management. The first two issues encounter were the air conditioning units for the downstairs bedrooms. They seemed to be hit and miss. The A/C in the living room however worked very well. The A/C in the master bedroom also worked as expected. The second issue was the Bar-b-que pit. The condition was not the best and the propane tank was covered in rust. The cable reception was horrible, usually not a problem as i don't have cable but it was world cup season. The kicker, the main problem, was that the previous renters flushed products down the toilet. This cause some serious sewage issues. For the first 2 days we could only use one bathroom in the entire house. The plumber came, made it a bit better, we were able to use all the bathrooms. A few days later the bathroom in the master went on the fritz again. We had to stop using it.

The sewage problem made itself known the first day we were there. Deon, the property manager, showed us another place he would move us into the next day. We turned it down. (even with 7 people and as far as we knew at that time 1 working bathroom we still wanted to stay at the villa) The day we left the plumber was supposed to come in cut into the pipe. So as far as i know the problem should be taken care off.

Deon was an exceptional manager. His general attitude and ability to get the problems soughted out was outstanding. I would do business with them again based soley on on his performance.

Our stay at the villa was up to and in some ways surpassed expectations. All the services that were promised such as --pick up from the airport, daily maid service, clean pool etc . Everyone that we interacted with were friendly and respectful. The villa is clean and well kept, even the utensils that are provided were in good condition. This was really appreciated by our family because we wanted to prepare our own meals and we were able to do this. The only complaint that we had was a leak in the bathroom of the master bedroom and a plumber was sent out when we complained, the problem was not resolved before we left but I hope that it has been.
