Minibus hire

Post by P. Smith »

Hi,

does anyone have experience of hiring multi-seat vehicles? Yes Tourism show a number of 7/8 seat "mini-vans". Does anyone know what the availability and condition of these is? I take it, given the dominance of Japanese vehicles, that there are no 15-seat Transit-type minibuses available on the island (or from Trinidad?).

Thanks,
Phil S

Hi Phil

There are very few proper "mini buses" on the island and the few on the island are owned by the larger tour operators, etc. As far as I know, there are none available for self-drive rental.

Most of the vehicles listed under "mini vans" on the Yes Tourism site are actually "people carriers" so will carry 4/5 in comfort and 6/7 at a pinch. You get what you pay for, I guess. The Toyota Liteace is about the biggest vehicle you can hire for self-rental and that will carry 8 in reasonable comfort I believe. I have to tell you that apart from cost, trying to get two of those will be difficult - I doubt whether anybody, including Thrifty, has more than one on their fleet.

Thanks Steve -- I thought something like that would be the case.

Mini Bus

Post by Patrick Dankou »

Hello Phil,
There are Mini buses for rent in Tobago, but they are not cheap. e.g.
Nissan Urvan 12 seater ( Diesel ) for 1200 TTD per day and a
Nissan Urvan 10 seater ( Gas) for 1000 TTD per day.
These vehicles are only available on request, that's why they are not listed.
