On the way from Castara to Roxborough you find my favourite beach, the best restaurant and the best fresh fruit juices in Tobago. The places are called Englishman's Bay, Riverside Restaurant in Parlatuvier and the name of the fruit place I even don't know.

Before I tell you something more about each place, let me just say a word to stay politically correct - well this seams to be important in our days: I feed my family from bringing some tourists to the island, but I don't earn a single cent from each of these three places - I just love them. Okay, now I can start:

If you stay at the Pigeon Point area, take a full day to discover the Caribbean side. You see Tobago on its best. Enjoy the drive to Castara and Englishman's Bay through small traditional villages far away from any mass tourism and take your time to take some pictures from the bays, the hills and the rainforest. Try to reach Englishman's Bay before 10am. - you might be the first person at this beautiful beach. Enjoy a beach made for TV-commercials. You don't have any large hotel close to the beach, no crowds of tourists and nobody who could really pollute this beautiful place. Take a swim, snorkel or just relax and do what you can do to make sure it stays this way - e.g. take your garbage to the bin or your car...

Getting hungry and thirsty drive in about 10 minutes to Parlatuvier and make a stop at the Riverside Restaurant. It is located at the junction where you pass left to the bay of the village - believe me you will find it, Parlatuvier is not that big. Sit down, relax and enjoy great seafood. You get everything in a different bowl. If you want more vegetables - just ask for more. Don't be afraid of drinking water from the pipe. The water in this area might be better than most mineral waters in other countries...

After another drive of maybe 20 minutes through the rainforest to the Atlantic side - don't get fooled by people telling you that have to pay to enter the rainforest - you should stop for a brilliant fruit juice from a real happy person just before you reach Roxborough. Mangos, pawpaws, bananas, sapodillas and mandarins mixed with coconut water - only fruits, but no chemicals at all for you to enjoy. The owner is a wise and happy man, because he truly wants to make his customers happy. Once his wife was there when I asked for my juice. She had nearly made the juice when he came with a big smile. His first words were: "Oh, I am right in time". Then he said to his wife: "This is not a real fruit juice", and he took some more mangos and pawpaws to put them in the blender. After you drink and pay the he sometimes says "Come take this", and he gives you some more bananas or sapodillas on your way...

Thanks for that Jorg. I totally agree - that is a truly beautiful journey and makes a great day trip. I've never stopped at the fruit place, but I know exactly which it is - after you've dropped down from the rainforest, the road levels out as you approach Roxborough and it's the first house on the left. I remember seeing signs outside. I must call in there on my next trip.
