myself a little short of money , I'd like to inform that there is actually a complete tobagian bay sold at ebay germany - 7.9 Mio €..... Hope they will not find a buyer in the bays an our interest.

There is a bay north of Casatra which had a for sale sign at the side of the road. From memoery I think it was before Parlatuvier I assume thats the one as it mentioned PP for a hotel.

it reminds me to Pirates Bay ....but I'm not shure. Anyway - this bay shouldn't be destroyed as seen on the plan...

Nick and all,I think that this is the bay just on the Arnos side of Culloden and if I remeber correctly it is about 200acres of land approved by THA for tourist development.It is the land adjacent not the bay that is for sale.

The picture is of Englishman's Bay? I know land with building permission for resort was for sale there (little Englishman's bay perhaps) + A Sunday Times report rated it one of the best beaches in the Caribbean as stated on Ebay..

Nina is quite correct. The photo is Englishman's Bay, but the advert on Ebay is somewhat deceptive because the land for sale is at Little Englishman's Bay. David is also correct in that it is the land that is for sale, NOT the bay (or beach) which would always remain public (although you cannot pass across private land to gain access to a public beach, so may only be able to come in from the sea).

Just an update on my original reply above. I am now reliably informed that The plot of land is actually on the "sea side" of Northside Road oppisite the entrance to Miss Mills Drive (Above Englishmans Bay). The plot is owned by a German who purchased 24 acres with the intention of building a villa. However the authorities have stipulated that he can only build on the land a hotel, and have refused his permission to build a small villa.

The photo is actually quite accurate, although taken from a look out point just inside Miss Miles Drive. Incidentally the lookout point is also for sale, based with Englishmans Bay Estate - 5 acres for $US 500,000. Whoops - Actually looking at ebay this is the Little Englishmans Bay. However I should point out that planning permission has being given to Steve & Rick Hayes who own the Englishmans Bay Estate to build a 30 room eco hut resort on the land adjacent to the bay on the sea side of the road. Rick has assured friends that he intends to make this 30 acre development complimentary to the surrounding area, and will leave much of the 500 acres he owns as it is - a nature reserve. They have no intention of stopping public access, and he has in all honesty being trying to develop the spot for over 10 years with no takers.

ENGLISHMAN'S BAY

A 400 acre estate on the Caribbean coast midway between the east/west ends of the islands, of which only 20% will be developed as an eco residential / tourism resort. A cabin style 50 room "hotel" is about to begin construction near to the only beach on Tobago that remains undeveloped. The residential phase offers one acre parcels scattered across the forested slopes of the Main Ridge National Park. Most parcels are sold with the exception of 4 mountain top parcels within a forest environment, of which one gives a commanding view of the Bay while the others look towards the forest. Travel time to Scarborough 30 minutes, airport 45 minutes.

List Price: US$100,000 to US$150,000 per acre

So this sounds to me it's getting time to say good bye to a little real paradies, not crowded & with a charming little service-point. In future it will be a walk over the street to get there, will you actually have to show some more engagement...

we have a saying that says: nothing is going to be eaten as hot as you cook it.
these plans are not new and as far as we know there are no investors in sight yet. I think every investor for a project like that checks out the infrastructure and will not find it good anough yet. other big hotels are still struggeling to be booked so why build a next one.
keep our fingers crossed for our "slice of paradise"....

Nevertheless ...

Whether it be 5, 10 or 20 years ... the right money (and determination), and tourist demand can reduce the timescales and bring on the desired specifications in a relatively short space of time.

Things can happen very quickly with the right ingredients in place, whether they be hot or cold!!

Whether it works or not is another matter ... but I wonder how this will effect smaller local businesses, particularly in nearby Castara?

depends on what exactly they are building and the price...
I feel people who come to castara want very individual holidays, beeing in touch with locals and their way of life and have the choice to eat in a different restaurant every now and then...
if they build a coco reef type (even with seperate cottages) it would be different guests then the ones who love castara... or would you change and go there instead, paul

In Nick's post, he referred to watching out for falling coconuts. I used to have a screensaver at work, a photo taken in Tobago, of a sign that said, "Beware of falling nuts." I got a new computer and lost it. I used to see similar signs at Pigeon Point, but no longer. Anyone know of a photo of a sign that says "Beware of falling nuts."
