I always enjoy looking at other forum members’ pictures of Tobago. I’ve finally got round to uploading some of our photos of our last holiday. If you’d like to have a look the link is: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8746391@N03/sets

Hi Caron
A lovely set of photos - a good mix and really representative of the island.
I can feel the heat, taste the food, smell the forest and hear the waterfalls
Fantastic shots of the Jacamars
I might take my own advice later this evening.
Cheers
Steve

You can also view the pics in full screen / higher resolution by clicking the first picture on the page link you gave, to open up the thumbnails album then click 'view as slide show' option, just towards the top right of the flickr page, then just sit back and reminis -preferably with a rum punch.Caron Pople wrote: Actually I’m very new to photo sharing sites and was quite disappointed with the size that the photos are displayed, however, it is possible to view them much bigger by clicking on the size tab.

Take only photos - leave only footprints. I like that concept.

Hi Roland,
Thank you for your comments. We have a Nikon D70. If you click on a photo on the site more information appears on the right hand side of the screen including: “Taken with a Nikon D70 More properties”. Clicking on that link gives great detail of every setting of the camera while the picture was being taken. Unfortunately I don’t understand any of it!
Thanks again

Hi Linda, thanks for sharing your impressions with us mytobago readers!
I like the idea of keeping this thread "on top" with constant "new pictures" articles. This is something I really missed in the past.
Greetings, Roland

Hi Guys & Gals
Sorry that I didn't respond. Family health problems mean that I'm only able to get an hour or two a day in the office at the moment. Although I remember receiving the notification of your post, Linda, I forgot to reply.
Yes, this seems like a good idea. I will pin a new thread to the 'Announcement' posts at the top of the General Questions & Comment sub-forum. Anybody who has got their own site or pages on a photo-sharing site, please just add details in this thread. I'm sorry, but lack of time means that I'm unable to offer to upload and post photos on reader's behalf.
Readers will be interested to hear that there will be a major upgrade of the forum in coming months. One of the new features will be the ability to upload photographs. I'm not sure when the new software will be available, but hopefully within a month or two.

Hi Caron,
Really nice pics. I have the D70s myself and was wondering what lens you used for those exposures ? Does not look like the kit 18-70mm.
Did you have any problems with sand getting into the camera ?
Thanks,
JDR

Hi Johnathan,
Glad you like the photos. We bought the camera along with a Nikon 28–80 mm lens and then bought a Sigma 70–300mmD. We have also thought about a wider angled lens but have not got round to getting one yet. As I’ve said, we really aren’t in any way photographers, but we like to try and take some nice pics and we thought this camera might help! We’ve taken it on a few holidays now and not really had trouble with sand. We have waterproof camera and lens bags and then keep them all together in another bag.
I’ve read some of your other posts and see that you are planning to visit Tobago in late July/early August – hope you have a great time.

Hi Johnathan
You must take very great care on Tobago when changing lens with any SLR camera (digital or film). This is particularly true on the Caribbean coast. It is remarkable how much sand and salt there can be in the air after the wind's journey over thousands of miles of Atlantic.
Previously, I always changed lens by turning my back to the wind and with the camera body held upside down - so that the lens opening was facing the ground; and, of course, ensuring that the whole change was done as rapidly as possible. However, after just 2 seasons of taking photos in Tobago, my Canon 20D is showing clear signs of dust/debris on the sensor - despite painstaking dust blowing and cleaning excercises after every outdoor shooting. I'm going to have to send it away for a clean before my next trip - and could probably buy a small digital compact for less than that will cost. In future, I think I will always strive to find a building where I can change lens.

Hi Steve and Caron,
Thanks for the info.
Steve, I do my best to plan ahead and change my lenses before going out because of the very reasons you cite, wind/dust. Is it expensive for you to get the sensor cleaned ? I have read about kits that allow you to do it yourself, but I am very nervous about cleaning the sensor and would prefer that a pro take care of it.
My favorite lens right now is my 50mm 1.8 prime and it is on the body 90% of the time.
I will post a link to my pics when I return.
JDR

I believe the cost is going to be around CDN$250, so not something that you want if you can avoid it. No, other than my trusted blower, I wouldn't even consider any of these kits. A service/clean is one thing - replacing the sensor or some other sensitive component because you've been digging around with God knows what is not an option IMHO.

I have a Canon 350D and I purchased a Sigma 18-200 lens solely for the reason that it covers most requirements and I have not removed it for over a year and this has solved the problem for me of dust.
I believe the major manufacturers of digital SLRs are spending a lot of money and time on solving this problem.
Regards
Paul
