Me like dat young Bill!
Have you read any of the books by your namesake and compatriot, Bill Bryson? He's always lost and bewildered, and knows more about Britain than the British!
Cheers
"Noe"
See, I'm getting used to the name!
Ps Just heard that my best friend ,who is four years younger than me, has become a step-grandmother

Noe,

Did i interpret what you said correctly, that the American Bill Bryson is always lost and bewildered (sounds like our President Bush) yet still knows more than the average Brit ?  #-o

Okay everybody, please note all the smilies and don't come back at me too hard.

Er, um. I'll have to be more careful how I phrase things in future Bill!
I won't mention Mr Bush; I don't want to open that particular can of worms again! :-"
Cheers
Noe.
PS. I hope no-one accuses me of calling the aforementioned George a worm...

David,
It's no good. Tell me off if you like, tell me it's my tiny mind, but no matter how many times I read that comment, I just can't help but think it's open to being misconstrued. [-X
I await your reply Sir.

Hey,
On a different matter entirely, I've just seen that Chas and Cammy are visiting Trinidad, and plan to visit Tobago! Will they go to Castara do you suppose?
David, I suppose Chas is your landlord, seeing as he owns most of Cornwall...
Bye fer now

Re: Time to get healthy

Post by Carol Townsend »

Saw the doctor yesterday. She told me I have a 7 millimetre gallstone ( which I am leaving alone for the moment) high blood pressure and a fatty liver due to being overweight.( Not as overweight as she is mind.. )
So, as I wasn't at work today and there was a thick frost this morning, I went swimmimg.
I went to the 9a.m. Ladies Only session. I like that session; not only is it quiet and calm, but most of the ladies will not see forty again, and none of them are built like Elle McPherson. Tell a lie; there was a twenty year old wearing a white bikini who I think was training for the Olympics, but the less said about her the better. Sorry boys.
The last time I went swimming was in the Caribbean, and, try as I might, I could not convince myself that I was back there.
There are just too many differences: the water smells of chlorine, you can only go up and down the length of the pool, there are no fish, no pelicans flying overhead, no waves, no reef to scratch your legs on when a wave picks you up and drops you down, and no sandflies. Ha!
There are trees visible through the windows, but in all truth, they aint coconut palms! And I had to pay to get in of course.
Still, I felt most virtuous afterwards, and it's done me good mentally, at least, even if I did forget my shower gel and hairbrush. I sat in the coffee bar afterwards smelling of chlorine and looking like a soggy scarecrow.
Next time I go swimming I'll take a friend so I can borrow her hairbrush and shower gel!
Yes I only had coffee I promise! And a small banana and a mango for lunch. Now
I've just got the evening to get through without over indulging....
Don't worry, I promise I won't bore you rigid with a day by day account of my new fitness regime! Don't you just hate those sort of people?
Bye for now!

Thanks David x You've made my day or night as I have only just got up! Sadly I can't afford the Virgin so you would probably feel most shabbily treated.Bought the lottery tickets though :!:
Noe, well done, glad to hear it's not just me being obliged to brave the ranks of the bodies beautifull  Those white clad nymphettes appear at my pool too just when I am thinking that maybe the effort will be worth it and send me scurrying for the changing room.Still, sitting in the steam room and lazing in the jaccusi (how is that spelt?) give me time to imagine the sun sounds and rythm of Tobago.Going to work soon.Morning all.

Re: Afrika Afrika!

Post by Carol Townsend »

Yesterday we went to see the African circus "Afrika Afrika!" at that upturned jelly mould formerly known as the Millenium Dome in Greenwich. It was STUNNING! (The show that is, not the upturned jelly mould.)
Those people are not human! There were jugglers, dancers, contortionists, acrobats, musicians....
One man stood up, bent double, put his head between his legs and stared at his own backside! As well as dislocating his shoulder and putting it back again... A woman twisted herself around like a writhing snake, men climbed tall poles and hung on using only hands and feet, another group played a rather dangerous looking game of basketball on uni cycles...I could go on and on!
We had front row seats so could shake hands with some of the performers at the end, and one young girl threw a streamer over me, which I've kept as a souvenir. Bought a book and a mug, but no teeshirt!
The whole show was just so full of energy and joy; the performers were clearly enjoying themselves and everyone in the audience was thrilled.
You must see it if it comes your way!
Watch some of it on their website.
I'm now going for a quick workout before trying out some of those acts myself....
Love Noe
PS I have not been paid to write this!

No probs Noe, Just a couple of warm up sessions and you will be joining the cast :!: .Not sure where to get the snake suit :?: Scary stuff,I was beggining to feel a bit nauseous just watching the snake lady. The "nursey" bit of me can't help wondering how soon the joints will start complaining about the abuse :!: .I dont think we are really built to do that stuff
Pretty impressive though and the show sounds like a blast. Might look into it Thanks Noe

Batten Down The Hatches

Post by GillMathews »

Seems we are in for a bit of a battering from the weather over the next few days :!: I love the sea but know it well enough to respect it's might and have to admit to being quite gratefull to be far from it at the moment. We are quite vulnerable to strong winds here so time will tell.
I hope that those of you in the areas with the worse predicted storms are not too badly affected and stay safe.
