Hello Gisela,
OH means "Other Half", but I much prefer your version of "Old Husband"!
You could also have OM - Old Man, or DH- Dear Husband. The possibilities are endless....
There was a television show where a character referred to his wife as "Her Indoors" which caught on with the British public. Him Indoors doesn't sound the same somehow though!
I won't ask what the Big Zero is, but I have a horrible feeling that I've left that particular milestone far behind, and in 2011 I'll be halfway between two zeros!
Ah well, back to the housework.
Love

Hi Carol

Shouldn't it be OSH - 'Other Significant Half' - in order to correctly reflect the status/seniority of his relationship? :P :P

Dear Carol,

I really love 'Her Indoors' !!! And 'Him Outdoors' could be someone who is always on the run

Dear Steve,

I guess, it depends in which meaning you put 'significant' ...

51 days to go \:D/

Hi Gisela
So, now you know, OH is a bit silly but in the UK pretty universal. Why 2010 ? Simply because it is next year ! No other reason. Have made a note in diary regarding 2011, thank you for your invitation. Like Carol will be nearer the bus pass age but so far all anatomical parts still attached and in working order - well, almost, certain bits creak in the morning, nothing a Carib or two can't rectify.
We are thinking of going for Christmas this year, how good would that be ? No cooking, no smiling unless you wish to, no hassle, the more I think about it the better it looks !

Steve,
In our case it's LSH -"Less Significant Half", which I think is appropriate! I am a tad older anyway....
Always an honour to have your presence here Steve. :D

Gisela,

If it is LSH in your household I would strongly advise you book your holiday to Tobago ASAP and tell him once monies have been paid. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind !

Dear all,

nobody would call me LSH! At least only once and after that he is not my OH anymore

Carol,
I love the sense of humor on this site but I guess I don't understand everything. Or maybe not everthing in the really right way. Still I amuse myself a lot.

Sandra, you are going in April AND in December? I play Lotto as often as possible but still can not make it :? One day.... hopefully ....

Do you also hate the people (probably the rich ones) who tell you: "money can not make you happy" ?
It would make me more than happy if I could go to Tobago twice or three times a year without turning my pockets in and out ... Sure, if anyone is badly injured or in bad helath conditions only money could not make him fit but can make live much easier and more relaxt than without money.

Sorry, have to leave to the lotto shop (a 28 Million Euro Jackpot)
Cheers

Give me a break ! We are not rich but have decided , before we are physically incapable, to make the most of our lives. Son has flown the nest and now we can travel where and when we wish. Far rather spend our money on holidays than saving it ! As you say no amount of money can buy you health but have no problem spending the money we have saved over many, many years. As the old saying goes " life is not a rehearsal " or, in the words of John Lennon" life is something that happens while you are making plans" . And yes, have every intention of booking for Christmas - have paid my dues - I'm allowed. Also, intend to meet you in 2011 at the latest, my birhday is in July so things could get REALLY messy !

Oh Sandra,

that was not against you! No way. When I got divorced (1998) we sold our house and got some money left. I bought a little car (a nice, red sportscar with lots of PS  ) and the following years I went to Tobago twice or three times a year. Now money is gone but I still have a job and save as much as I can for my holidays.
And I have a physical desease that can bring me into a wheelchair but hopefully not too soon (at the moment it looks good). You can be sure that I'm using my time well :)

We can celebrate our birthday together in July 2011, should we? It's my 50th birthday so I really feel like having a very big party! And a friend from Denmark is thinking about joining me, because she will have her 60th birthday in 2011. Party time! \:D/

50 days to go !
Cheers

That's the problem with written text, no inflection. Anyway, when is your birthday ? Will definitely be there if not broke or dead. In fact already looking forward to it - we can really have a party ! Make sure Carol gets there, I understand her LSH only holidays in the summer which would be perfect. Let me know when you are going next year, hopefully we could share a beer or six before the big -0 .I was just teasing before - honest !

Just finished packing and off to Gatwick in a minute, staying in hotel overnight and on Virgin flight in the morning.
I will advise of goings on in Castara from tomorrow.
Have to say that its the only place that brings out the child in me.

Hi Paul

I don't know, reading the above makes me think that Hamble is not doing too bad a job of bringing the child out.

Have a great trip.

Hey Paul,
lucky you! As we Germans would say: Don't do things I wouldn't do also (I don't think this is the right translation but the meaning is to enjoy yourself as much as you can). 8) ´
Have nice holidays with your family.

Sandra, I would love to celebrate my birthday with all of you! Note July, 13th 2011 :D

Ah!
Here we go again Gisela. In our quest to show the world that we Europeans are truly united, we have that saying in Britain too! "Don't do anything that I wouldn't do!"
Or, if I may be a little risque at this time in the afternoon: "if you can't be good be careful, and if you can't be careful, get a pram!"
Where's young Bill? What's the US version then?
Answers on a postcard please...
July 13th 2011? Hmm. I wonder if I'll still be working in a school then? That date is just before the holidays start.... :-k
In hope

Time you got a grip . LSH likes to holiday in the summer, I think July is the summer, well, as close as we get . You work in term time, accepted, but asking for the last week off two years before is not being that ridiculous. Were you not the person who told me the earth would not fall in if I didn't cook a million mince pies or wrap every present to perfection ? Think on.......

Oooh Sandra,
Don't tell me off!
When you work in a school the first line of your contract says: "Thou shalt not take thy holidays in school term -time", nor dentist appointments, doctor or hospital appointments, waiting for the gas man, furniture delivered etc etc. About the only thing allowed is attending funerals! I do have the advantage of working part-time as a job-share, so sometimes I can negotiate a swap with my partner, who then has to make arrangements with their second job, so it's all very complicated.I work with children with profound disabilites so the rules are really strict due to their needs. My Head teacher would NOT give anyone time off for a holiday, not even for the famous Ms Grell's 50th birthday in Tobago. It would be a case of "your hoilday or your job".
Still, I may have moved on by then, so who knows?
Not making any promises! :(
