Hi Aimee.
Equilibrium Spa at The Hilton is still open. (Despite what you may be told - we have the same problem with the dive centre! Because the hotel is closed, everyone assumes that the spa and dive shop are too - they aren't!). They have several rooms, a hair salon, etc., so can cater for a party all at once. I took my sister there for Xmas when she visited a couple of years ago and we were pampered within an inch of our lives... I could get used to it!
Their number is 631 0038 or 631 0039.
Enjoy!
Lisa.

Good idea, Mr.Watkins and no sooner said than done. It is time I updated our listing for the VHL. I have been trying to get information about the hotel, but am now not even getting replies from them. Local contacts tell me that work hasn't even started there. It sounds pretty grim. I know they were having no luck in finding a new management company and I suspect that with the current economic climate and downtown in the tourism market, the hotel will sadly just stand there and rot. What a crying shame!

Rumours say that the refurbishment costs for the hotel may reach or exceed $ 100 Millions (not sure which currency), as the "rot" has reached far and has just been covered for some time. There is definately a serious problem to find an investor for that amount of money. Some of you may remember there was already a big scandal and court matter years ago between investors and other companies in charge of construction and management, after the construction costs exceeded the proposed costs by far.
When the construction started, i think it was in 1999, i already couldn't understand how somebody can
build such a complex so exposed to the elements, i.e. sea blast, and use normal construction materials like steel for door and window frames, roofing etc. It was prone to be a desaster sooner or later.
I really hope there will be a solution but i doubt very much it will be anytime soon.
I agree with Steve, it is a shame, and now the second large "ruin" after the new, never finished, hospital complex. Let's all hope for better times and more management skills.
