Bit confused about flight times

Post by LisaJ »

Hello,

We are flying BA in POS. Our flight takes off at 10.30am GMT, and arrives at 17.20 into POS local time. Flight duration is showing as 10 hours 20 mins (due to a stop in St Lucia). But with the 4hours difference I still make that over 11 hours...... am I right to assume they aren't counting the waiting time at St Lucia as part of the flight duration, or are my calculations wrong?

Many thanks - just good to know how many hours we are onboard.

Hello Lisa,
you are correct, they don't add the time on the ground. The actual flight time depends on a few factors that can make a big difference. Each flight follows a flight plan that is calculated hours prior departure and sometimes altered en route.
It takes several factors into consideration e.g. wind speed and direction, take off weight, traffic on the route etc.
Just listen to the announcements on board they usually give you the actual flight time.
As a general rule you can assume that you will have a longer flight time to the Caribbean than on the way back to England , the difference can be more than an hour.
