Need Camera charger for Canon EOS DSLR
Hi Guys,
I forgot to pack my camera charger for my canon eos 400d (it takes the NB-2L battery) and now have a flat battery but no means of charging it. I tried everywhere in Tobago and Scarborough but to no avail, so if there is anyone out there who has a charger I could borrow please contact me ASAP and I will come to you (with your choice of tipple) to borrow it. I was aiming to take masses of pictures of my family and the gorgeous sunsets here but can't now, so please get in touch if you can help me.
Mobile number is: 480-8358, call or text (preffered) or get hold of me on here.
Thanks
Ol

Re: Need Camera charger for Canon EOS DSLR
If your appeal fails, I just took a look at a pic of the charger on the net - looks like it is a simple 2 x male connector affair, + and - terminals, which will insert into the female connectors on the battery. If you can find out (by scouring the web or calling home to get someone to read your charger label) the correct output voltage and MH rating of the charger (not to be confused with the INPUT voltage!) then you could go to one of the Tobago electronics shops or computer repair shops and get them to take any other charger for any device with a compatible output, and splice 2 wires to be inserted into the females of your battery terminals, + and -. Should work, albeit a bit Heath Robinson - worse case scenario is that your battery will be shorted, but this is unlikely if you replicate the exact output correctly.

Re: Need Camera charger for Canon EOS DSLR
Many thanks for your reply. I am pretty sure I have tried this - I got my dads digital camera charger and connected the + and - with pieces of wire then ran them to the battery and connected them accordingly. I thought I had some joy but the charger just flashed (it should be a constant) and then left it for a good few hours - still dead as a doornail.
There is a T looking thing in the middle - should I be doing something with that? When I spliced a wire from that to the battery - I got no lights at all....
Thanks for your help

Re: Need Camera charger for Canon EOS DSLR
Mmmm. I would ask you to take a picture of the t looking thing on the battery so that someone smarter than me can tell you if it is some kind of switch etc which is depressed when the battery is inserted, or earth, but your camera is dead! In Trinidad you would doubtless find the charger you need - have you tried calling some Canon dealers in Port of Spain/Trinidad, to see if they have a charger and can send it across by next day TT post service, taking payment by card on the phone? Won't be cheap, but at least you would end up with a spare charger. Note: when I lived in Tobago a few years back there was a really nice chubby young guy who worked in Radioshack in the Movietown mall on the highway, one of these boffin types, and they have heaps of bits and bobs around. If you can track him down, or an equally helpful boffin-youth in there, you might be able to rig something. Good luck

Wendell,
I have a charger for the Canon NB-1LH (Powershot 300), the NB-5L (S100) and a charger for my T2i batteries. Let me know if you think these would help.

Re: Need Camera charger for Canon EOS DSLR
From what I can see, the battery is a lithium ion type 7.4 volt (ie 2 cells). it is probably not a good idea to charge it with anything not designed for that application. Whatever you use must not overcharge the battery or there is a risk of explosion. Some Lithium ion packs have the charge controller in the battery and are not so fussy about the charger but that doesn't look that sort of battery.
Although the camera appears to have USB connectivity I don't think it will charge that way if it is a 7.4 volt battery. USB charged cameras are usually 3.6 volt.
Have you tried any of the shops in Gulf City Mall? I can't think of anywhere in Scarborough but there was a knowledgeable chap upstairs in Gordon Plaza near the mall. Failing that, Trinidad. It's a nice ride on the boat if you can find out that someone there has it in stock.

Hugh,
You legend but I dont think any of them will fit my battery - have had a google search and I think yours are the same battery as my dads charger (small digital camera) - I will keep checking though, but pretty sure it is abit small sadly.
Frank,
Literally gone all over Tobago and not found anywhere! As for the ferry to Trinidad - its easter weekend coming up and even the flights/ferries are fully booked sadly.
Surely, someone in Tobago must use an EOS?

Wendell, just sent you a text. I have a Canon Rebel xt (known as the 350D in the UK). Believe it may have the same battery. Going to check it a little later and will let you know!

@David - just got in from scarborough and tried those places you mentioned - unfortunately the guy has got a charger etc but its just for Nikon cameras! Really appreciate the help though.
@Rachel - texted back - I think yours may well fit - googled it quickly and it looks to be a match. If I could try it out - that would be amazing. Looking forward to meeting you!

Re: Need Camera charger for Canon EOS DSLR
I sure did - tried every camera and photo place in Tobago now. For reference there is a guy on the Milford road (Scottys photography I think its called) who does universal chargers for the newer canon models.
Thanks

Re: Need Camera charger for Canon EOS DSLR
Hi Chris,
Very many thanks for your offer.
Rachel, linked to CocoMotion, had the very thing and we are camera capable again.
Good luck with the goat (and crab) races. We're booked into Buccoo for the Easter weekend, so if there is a fancyable goat that you know of, please be sure to tell us. We'll take a mug shot - we now have the means. Wendell
