Celery Bay and King Peter’s Bay from Runnemeade.
The Disney Company shot these movie scenes from just off the Northside Road in Runnemeade overlooking Celery Bay and King Peter’s Bay. The filming location used back then, is now the swimming pool area of the property built by the renowned British photographer, Norman Parkinson in 1962.
Mr Parkinson lived in Runnemede, sharing the time between his London and Tobago homes.

SWISS FAMILY MOVIE SITES REVISITED - a revisit 60 years later, of filming locations used by Walt Disney in the movie
I have just a couple more film locations to cover. Some of these are tricky camera angles so its a nice challenge. I hope to revisit the island soon and add to these posts.
Meanwhile, I am posting some Maps so everyone can easily find these Swiss Family Robinson 1960 film sites.
It’s a new posting in this same Board Section ‘Sightseeing, Tours, Sports and Activities’.

Scene filmed at Goodwood on the hill heading to Studley Park, Windward Road overlooking Smith’s island, Tobago 1959
This Screen Capture was a bit of a challenge! Its only because I have photographed Smith’s island from numerous angles that I was able to recognize it from the movie’s night scene (Movie Start = 1:02:29).
Swiss Family Robinson - Fritz, Ernst and Roberta on their way home after escaping from the pirates. Roberta spent her first sleepless night here.

Scene filmed at Shipwreck Bay, Belle Garden,Tobago 1959
Swiss Family Robinson - Fritz and Ernst exploring the coastline around the island. Spotting the pirates on the beach, they decided to turn the raft around and hide behind the rocks. (Movie Start = 0:51:04).

Scene filmed at Shipwreck Bay, Belle Garden,Tobago 1959
Swiss Family Robinson - Shipwreck after the storm.
The stern of the shipwreck was on the large rock close to the cliff,
with the bow out in the water. The shipwreck was anchored onto the rocks with steel bars - some of which are still underwater - verified by Norman (Taw) Hade, Belle Garden fisherman and diver.
(Movie Start = 0:08:58).

Both the shipwreck and the raft scenes (with Fritz and Ernst spotting the pirates around the rocks) were filmed at Shipwreck Bay, Belle Garden, Tobago 1959

Awesome job!!! Historical and Heritage photography and documentation should be encouraged as the age becomes more digital and historians have greater access to feasible technology. It is good to know that there are still dedicated historians who will not let our collective histories be forgotten. Hope to see the documentary soon. Congrats again on a job well done thus far and the continued work.

Cow Farm Road, Goldsborough, just off the Windward Road
Swiss Family Robinson - Treehouse completed. Father Robinson working the bellows for the fire. An artificial stream was built at the right of the treehouse with water pumped from the nearby Goldsborough River about 100 meters away.

Re: SWISS FAMILY MOVIE SITES REVISITED - a revisit 60 years later, of filming locations used by Walt Disney in the movie
Screen Capture: Swiss Family Robinson - Treehouse under construction by Father Robinson, Fritz and Ernst. Rocky the elephant guided by Young Francis, did much of the heavy lifting.
Scene filmed at Goldsborough, Tobago 1959
Movie Start = 0:31:04
Now Shot: The canopy of the tree is very much altered and the two large lowermost branches are now gone.
The Saman tree suffered its first extensive damage by hurricane Flora in 1963, when the treehouse (sans furnishings) left by The Walt Disney Company, was blown away.
In 2018, the tree suffered some burn damage to part of its base and extensive damage to the lower right branch which had to be severed. In this May 2019 photo, the huge, lower branch is on the ground awaiting disposal.

The Walt Disney Company compound at Goodwood housed the props store, machine ship and the film studio. The movie animals were housed next to the studio. The area is now the Goodwood Secondary School.

Swiss Family Robinson treehouse in Goldsborough. A replica treehouse set was built at the Walt Disney Studio in Goodwood for filming the dance scenes and the Christmas carol singing scenes.

The Walt Disney Company Studio in Goodwood. The movie animals were housed next to the studio. Back in 1959, this part of Goodwood was purely agricultural.
