Nancy and I were lucky enough to spend 6 weeks with Shirma and her family while on our medical elective at Scarborough General hospital.

We can’t express enough how glad we are to have stayed at Shirmas. Our apartment was perfect for what we needed with a huge bed and importantly AC. Due to her taking in mainly medical students, it was a great way to get to know others at the hospital. Having a bigger group of students made it feel safer when going out to Sunday School, Wednesday Karaokes and Anchor Bar in the evenings.

Shirma organised our transport from/to the airport, morning transport to hospital and weekly grocery shop trips (all included in price of stay). She has connections with many taxi drivers who offer reduced prices - a big shoutout to Raymond who entertained us on every trip! Shirma also has a list of good tours and sights to see, including a rainforest tour, animal sanctuary trip, bioluminescence tour and scuba diving. She was always happy to organise these tours for us. Her Sunday lunches were absolutely delicious too, such a treat.

She prioritised our safety, comfort and making everyone feel at home. Shirma, we could not be more grateful for everything you’ve done for us during our stay, we certainly felt less homesick because of how welcoming you and your family had been.

We will miss you all, thanks again for making it such an incredible experience. We hope to meet again one day!
