1940s Picture Postcard- Parlatuvier Bay, Tobago … Scenic Views of Trinidad and Tobago $15 stamp - Parlatuvier Bay, Tobago issued on 8 June 2021 … Now shot of Parlatuvier Bay, Tobago (January 2025) …

Interestingly, Sisters Rock isn’t visible in both the postcard and the $15 stamp. In August 1959, Sister’s Rock was used to film a scene from the 1960 Disney movie Swiss Family Robinson (the Robinson boys circumnavigating the island on a small outrigger raft).

Notice the amount of photoshopping done on the 2021 stamp to make the greenery look pristine … all done by the stamp designers to make the photo look less cluttered …

QSL card from Disney Swiss Family Robinson First Unit Filming Crew Member and amateur radio operator, Jack Lambert

Front and back of a QSL card confirming transmission on 18 September 1959 and signed by Jack Lambert, Walt Disney Productions Film Unit crew member. The Disney Film crew stayed at the Hotel Robinson Crusoe in Scarborough and rigged up their amateur radio antenna on the roof of the hotel. (Some of the props crew were on the island since April building sets - they stayed at the smaller hotels).

I have seen a second printing of this QSL with a bright yellow background (also with the year printed 1959 but used as late as 14 January 1960 with the year traced over in pen to read 1960). Filming of the movie Swiss Family Robinson began in August 1959 and was a wrap just before Christmas. Only a minor piece of filming needed to be done in the New Year - the closeups of the stars on the animals - to complete the animal races scene around the treehouse. The first unit film Crew was in Tobago at least until 14 January 1960 as evidenced by a late usage QSL card from a Disney Film Crew Member and amateur radio operator Jack Lambert. (QSL cards are written confirmation of radio communication between two amateur radio station).

QSL card courtesy Edward Barrow.

Andy Glasgow Bar, Parlatuvier, Tobago overlooks Sisters Rock, one of the filming locations for the 1960 Disney movie, Swiss Family Robinson.

A scene with the Robinson boys circumnavigating the island in the deep sea around some rocks, was filmed at Sisters Rock, Parlatuvier Bay in 1959.

Stop at Glasgow’s Bar, Northside Road, Parlatuvier, Tobago and enjoy a cold one on the veranda overlooking this picturesque filming location. Have a chat with the barman, Andy. He is always happy to talk about Tobago.
