Bad news: We are back from the island. From this directly to the good ones: great island, great people, great time. And, of course, another “great” to Steve’s homepage, which prepared us so well for that trip, that many Tobagians didn’t believe that’s our first stay on the island. In this context: down on the beaches or up in the deepest rainforest - you can’t turn a stone on the island without reading the words on his back: Steve was already here.
So let’s start a short review based on our (most remarkable) expiriences: (An excuse ahead for my humpy English)
Our island-wedding in one word: wonderfull. Thanks to Mr Jordan, the marriage clerk, for everything. Weddingsnight review on extra-charge, all C-Cards accepted
Old Donkey Cart House – our two weeks-accomodation. An easy going place with a restaurant (good) a bar (unfortunatly not very frequented) and a refreshing pool (with a view). 9 rooms at different levels (and prices). The smaller groundfloor rooms seemed to make there inhabitants not really happy. A good choice instead are the first floor rooms – and the really spaceious top-appartement. Catering: For a longterm-stay we would have wished us a breakfast in more variations…..
Bacelot-Beach, the nearest to the ODCH, ist nice, but a little “clean” and dominated by Blue Heavens Hotel-Guests. The staff at the bar seemed to us as distinguished as the guests……
PigeonPoint -Beach: Be aware it is an resort, with all advantages and disadvantages of this.
Englishman-Bay: Thank God for this - or who else made this place. If I have to die one day, please let it happen there. My suggestion: Knockout by falling Coconut would be fine.
Kimme Museum: A friendly and openminded lady presenting her impressing kind of art – and although a very good coffee (extra service for a just-married-couple). Take a look at her book “Chachalaca” writen in English & German, which she offers there. More information: http://www.kimme.de
Und the mango tree: Very good homemade food by Mrs. Boone. Chicken-breast with coconut and lemon-rice and peanutsauce…mmmmmhhh - it take 40 Minutes, but it’s worth waiting each of them. Have a look at her cooking book! AND: Mango tree runs out under Mrs. Boones ledership soon …… L
Dillons Place - a nice-looking bar at Pleasant Prospect (?): Man at work at the moment…..so no service.
Dillons Restaurant. Very good see-food at Canaan
Oceanview-Bar: simple location but perfect for sunset-watchingto. Sometimes: don’t forget OROPAX.
Juice-Bar: Bevor I have to die at Englishmansbay (s.o.), I will take a stop at the Juice-Bar located on the road from Roxborough up through the rainforest (direction Bloody-Bay). Ca. 1-2 kilometers behind the crossing to Scarborough right-hand - still down in the valley. Heavenly fresh juice.
Salsa Kitchen/Scarborough: One of our favorite restaurants. Friendly service, good atmosphere, nicely furnished, specialised on tapas & pizzas. The evening, we arrived first time & without reservation, an extra-table was brought outside immediately. Salsa Kitchen: 12 points La Tararuga: Italian food, italian wines, both on high level - so for us as italy-lovers the choice for wedding-lunch. Very good (and even expensive). And: We had been warned by Tobagians about the “speak-speak”-charakter of it’s owner – and truely he speaks a lot , but mainly about what is to be served next. So: Not really a problem if you have been to Italy before….. P.S.: Someone looking for a Michael Palin-lookalike? Just go there….
Music. Naturally we went to Sunday-School at Buccoo. What we found was a place, whith too many people like us – that means tourist. After half an hour we went off – our next trial will be the goat-race there.
Mutch better: Watch out for the exerices of the local steelpan-bands. 30…40 steelpanplayers from 4 years to 99 playing (especially NOT playing the very common songs from Beatles to Sinatra) – unforgetable! Special thanks here to the “Katzenjammers” from Black Rock – I wear their Shirt with real pride!
