The sun is setting over the sea, not the land - so it makes no real difference where you are standing. The best photographs I have seen of sunsets have always been taken further inland than on the seashore, so that that the picture is framed with palms, hills or other features in silhouette. Conditions vary every day so the sunsets are never the same two days running anyway. I have no personal “favourite” place because I’ve seen spectacular sunsets almost every day almost everywhere on the island. Even on the Atlantic coast you can get gorgeous effects as the sun sets behind the hills.

Two great places for sunset. The beach bar at Sandy Point Beach Club -- right on the water -- and the bar at the Pavillion at Stone Haven Villas (nice happy hour) -- up on a hill.

Or at Castara?

Post by Rachel Harries »

Just as the land meets the beach at Castara - that's where we took our incredible photos, that simply everyone admires when they come to my house. They look like postcards. Anywhere on the road down into Castara - all along the Caribbean coast - is where you will see the sun melt into the sea. There are lots of vantage points to take adVANTAGE of. Geddit?

Yes ... Castara is the place where I have seen the best sunsets ... we always rushed back from days out just to see it and record it.

They are so good that I have taken the trouble to calculate that if I live to 70 and go back to Tobago for an average 2 weeks for every remaining year in my life then I will see another 406 Castara sunsets.

Now there's a thought.

Sunsets

I agree with Steve that almost anywhere on the Caribbean coast or slightly inland is where you will see the most spectacular sunsets. For me I found that the best place was at Mount Irvine as you have a wonderful sunset with the setting sun dipping into the sea and illuminating the sky.

You ain't seen a sunset until you've seen the sunset over Galway Bay!! 8)

Unfortunately thats not in Tobago, so that is no good to you. The best sunset i saw was from Pelican Island... much to my horror the batteries were dead in the camera, so I only have the memories.

Although we never made it, locals told us one of the best spots is the fort at Plymouth.

We liked just staying at our hotel (Rex) as we could get silhouttes of trees etc to make photo's more interesting.

SUNSETS

You must go to the jetty at Charlotteville. Buy yourself a beer or three. Just chill there and wait with your camera in hand. It's also amazing to be there first thing in the morning to see what the fishing village is up to. This is a REAl Tobago experience.
