Hello there, I have plans of renting a villa for two weeks and have just sent 50% downpayment to a real estate company in Tobago. Somewhat late, but newertheless I was wondering if this kind of companies are generally reliable regarding sending funds without any security what so ever.. Anyone with experience about this matter? By the way, great site, it's a pity I didn't discover it a little bit earlier.

Thankful for all replies.

Hi Alexander, worry not. We never had any problems with any real estate agencies renting villas. You didn't indicate which company you're dealing with, but if you should encounter any problems drop us a line and we will get in touch with them. Tobago is too small for bad apples in this competitive small villa rental market, so you can feel safe.

Hello Alex, Patrick is right - the real estate agent that rents my place out (Island Investments) takes 50% deposit and as a result of the firms advice re people cancelling without hefty deposits I take it too when booking privately - everyone is honest and would have more to lose by running off with half your money, particularly given that reputations could be crushed by this site! Make sure you have travel insurance to cover you against loss of deposit for your own unlikely (I hope) reasons (bereavment, injury etc), although with proof and a begging letter you might even get a refund. If it is Island Inv, Steve will be there at the airport to meet you. Have fun,

Thank you, to both Patrick and Glyn. I didn't want to put the name of the company in my article because I didn't want to offend anyone, but , yes, I have made rental arrangements through Island Investment Ltd. Villa to be rented is Shalom Villa. Thanks to you both I may be assured that everything should be OK. Now, the next step is to make reservations reg. car-rental and arrange some tours through Yes Tourism. ( I'll mail soon, Patrick) Thank you ever so much and forgive me if I bother you in the nearest future with further questions. I look forward to get to know the beautiful island of Tobago better in the future.

Regards
