Grockles... haven't heard that term for aeons!! It's also how people in Guernsey refer to the English, I believe!! I must admit, having been reading Noe's accounts of her holiday, it does sound like Guernsey and The Scilly Isles may have lots in common! My family used to go to Guernsey every year and it holds a special place in my heart. Has anyone out there been to Guernsey as well as The Scilly Isles, and if so, are they alike??!

I will tell you about the Lost Land of Lyonesse (aka The Fortunate Isles) soon, if you can spare the time, and I'm also compiling a photo album. I haven't been to the Isles of Channel though

That word "grockle" I believe is also used in the new Forest to describe outsiders. It must have ancient origins I do reckon.

As a bilingual Welsh person, I must say that Cernyweg is remarkably like Welsh. The Welsh word for island is ynys. By the way king Arthur is sleeping in a cave somewhere waiting for the call should Wales need him. What do I have to do get a little dragon by my postings? My ex students always referred to me as the Welsh witch or the dragon. Has anyone else pointed out that Tobago is remarkably like the island of Praslin in the Seychelles?

I must admit, I looked it up! My knowledge of all things Cornish was sadly limited to a (great but short!) holiday in St Austell about thirty years ago! I figured that if I was going to get back in your good books, I HAD to get it right!! Fortunately Wikipedia helped!!

The Isle of Wight is not too far from the New Forest of course, if you don't include paddling across the Solent.
"Rubbernecks" I guess is a disparaging term for tourists!
My Grandad spent the last few years of his life in Havant, and loved the fact that on a clear day he could see the IOW from his flat.
Just thought I'd throw that in..

OK then, you've been waiting long enough.
I've compiled an album as homage to my beloved Isles of Scilly. As you are aware, photography is not my forte. My camera is the size of a Kit Kat and all I do is point and shoot!

So the photos are not great for that reason, plus the fact that I did something strange so that many of them were dark and I had to try and make adjustments on the computer, and it was often misty, so I had to try and compensate for that.

I tried to capture the stunning beauty of the Scillies, but you'll have to take my word for it that the colours of the crystal clear sea (when the sun's out!) can easily rival the Caribbean, ranging from a soft pale blue to turquoise, royal blue and indigo. Add to that the silky, white beaches..
I had (unintentional) fun with one or two notice boards. When I tried to adjust the "text contrast" settings the photos emerged in psychadelic colours, which I rather like!

Noe,nice pics brought back memories of gig racing days when I was(considerably)younger!
Incidentally you mentioned the silky sand,did you know that after fish that used to be the Islands' biggest export.It had a very unusual use.You have seen in period films when they wrote with pen and ink and then sprinkled apowder over the writing to dry it,that powder was actually sand from the back bay on St Mary's!It is as fine as talc.
