Place to stay and things to do
Hi Everyone! First of all I saw that nobody added any new topics which worries me a little. But, nevertheless, here are some things I want to ask you all.. I am getting married with the most wonderfull man in September/October 2004. Since we are basic people, we don't want a fancy wedding, no fancy hotel, etc. just the 2 of us on the beach. Does someone have a suggestion about the right places to stay for us. We are thinking of appartment or cottage.
Further, we have 3 weeks available, but I am worried that 3 weeks is a bit long on such a small island.....are there enough things to do???
Thanx all for any replies!!!

Hi Arianne
It sounds as though a sleepy idyllic village is what you need, such as Castara, or Charlotteville, both have plenty of apartments/cottages around within walking distance to the beach and "basic".
3 weeks will whizz past and you will wish you had more time here not less - you could visit a new beach every day, include a day in the rainforest, a day at a waterfall or Little Tobago and still not see all the beaches in 21 days.
Hope it goes well for you

You are now getting this from the horse's mouth, so to speak. This message is being sent from the Sherwood Park Apartments. We've only been here 24 hours, but so far I can tell you that it is everything other posts and reviews have suggested and more. We have spoken to the guests in three of the other apartments, who have all been here a week or more, and they are all totally knocked out with the place. It is just so peaceful and friendly, and yet every popular beach, restaurant and other facility in the south-west of Tobago is just a few minutes drive away.
Yes, I can certainly recommend Sherwood Park Apartments. My full review of the place will be available on mytobago some time next month.

Great Steve! It sounds wonderful. You have convinced me. I will tell the Dutch wedding organisation bureau who will arrange our wedding, that they must book Sherwood Park for us. I must say I envy you a little, I wish I was already there with my husband to be...
Bye from a rainy and cold Holland and thank you very much.
Arianne.

Hi Arianne
I am convinced that you will not be disappointed. Sherwood Park will be a wonderful place, whether you want the wedding ceremony to be held in the grounds, or elsewhere on the island, and whether you are thinking of accommodation for just the two of you, or also for family and friends.
As you probably know, Sherwood Park Apartments is Dutch-owned, so tends to be very popular with guests from the Netherlands. It is a genuinely friendly place. Nigel, the manager, is a star and spends his day roaring around taking care of guests. All his staff are happy, friendly and accommodating and this rubs off onto the guests, so with only ten apartments, it ends up more like a big gathering of friends – although not in an ‘organised’ and intrusive way. If you want your own space, you’ve got it. It’s just a lovely atmosphere.
As regards planning your wedding, may I take the liberty of recommending that you consider Marie Daines of http://www.tobago-weddings.com Tobago Weddings. She is the island’s premier wedding planner. Marie is an English lady who has been resident over here for many years and really knows the island well. Your home firm may be good, but anybody off-island simply can’t know the island well enough to guarantee the best results. I’m sure Marie would work with your local planners if you really wanted their involvement. Everybody speaks so highly of Marie and I know that she would organise a wedding that you will cherish for ever.

Hi Steve,
It is very nice of you to further inform me about Sherwood Park Apartments and Marie. Thank you very much indeed! This Dutch wedding bureau is taking care of all the necessary Dutch paperwork, flights and hotelreservations. But for the actual wedding planning in Tobago they work with a local agency. I will ask them if this is Marie. Since you tell me that she's the only one on the island, it might very well be that she is also their contact.
By the way, is September / October a good month on Tobago, with the weather??

Hi Arianne,
as my wife and me spent four wonderful weeks in Sherwood Park only three weeks ago I take the liberty to give some hints.
The appartments downstairs have air-condition, the view from the balcony is over the garden, bush an palms.
The appartments upstairs don´t have air-con, but rooms and balconies are a bit larger and the view is more spectacular, cause it is wider and you can see the ocean, the Trinidad-ferries going to and parting Scarborough.
As there is a breeze nearly all the time and you can let open windows and doors during the night without problems (but take care of mosquitos) you don´t need air-con.
In September / October it´s rainy season and you may have some rain, but a lot of sun also.
What you there is a car, cause beaches, restaurants, super-market etc. can be reached by car only. Of course you can order taxies, but you are much more independent with your own car. Nigel can organize this for you in advance for prices even below the island-average.
Kitchen equipment is simple but enough for holiday needs.
The pool is large and well cleaned, enough beach-chairs, towels etc. available.
Enjoy your stay and and all the best for your marriage.
Best regards from Berlin

Hi Ulrich,
thanks for your reply and information. As far as I understand from you, the upstairs apartments are the best (and I don't like airco anyway). I will try to book one of these apartments. I am glad that you tell me that Nigel can arrange a car under the standard rental prices. Now I know that it is not wise to book a car on beforehand in Holland.
Have you spent the entire 4 weeks on Tobago??
I must say I am very glad that I have found this website forum because within the last 2 days I got more information about Tobago than the last 2 months!!
Thanking all of you for being so nice to reply to me!!
Arianne.
