Hello !
I am a single woman travelling alone and would like to spend a week in Castara. I would like recommendations of secure properties as I have heard there have been break-ins here in the past. Are there any properties with a night security guard for example ? Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: Secure accomodation in Castara
Hello Tina
Welcome aboard!
No, there is nowhere is Castara with night security guards, and long may that continue.
Yes, over the years there have been a few isolated cases of burglaries and petty theft. I am not aware of any cases of violence against visitors during such incidents.
As a result, security tends to be relatively lax compared to guest accommodation in the more populated areas of Tobago. However, for your own peace of mind, I would suggest that your best bet would be to stay at a property with a resident local owner. As such, I would suggest looking at the following properties:
Alibaba's SeaBreeze
Porridge's Place
Baywatch Apartment
Boatview
Castara Bliss Apartments
Coffee House Apartments
Naturalist Beach Resort

As there is no safety deposit box in our room in Castara we wondered if First Citizen's Bank might offer daily/weekly safety deposit boxes for tourists in order to keep passports/tickets/valuables, etc. safe for our own piece of mind when we're out and about. Thank you!

Dear Jen
Even if any bank were to offer such a service they would be at least 45minutes to an hour away!
There are properties WITH security boxes in Castara .
The property owner may have their own secure place?
Theft from visitors, or anyone for that matter, in Castara is a rare event.
That said one should still exercise common sense, something one sees visitors all too often seem to leave behind when they travel!
