A mundane question about laundry

Post by Carol Townsend »

Off to Castara next week (wheee!) and hoping to travel light. I note that there are launderettes on the island, but is there one in,or within crawling distance of Castara?
I have been trawling through some old posts trying to find this info, but all I could find was one from August 2005 entitled "keeping tidy" which turned into a THREE PAGE discussion about underpants as an insect repellant
My family think I'm very sad and rather strange because I spend so much time on this site.Maybe they're right. You're all nuts!
I'm also delighted that some of your non UK contributors are just as eccentric as we Brits
Keep up the good work!
Cheers, Carol

Carol

If you are spending your time reading about Paul underpants rather than serious holiday research, then I'm afraid there is absolutely no hope for you. You are well on your way to becoming as sad as the rest of us regulars.

Far be it from me to risk upsetting Castara fans, but I had formed the impression that most of them were far too busy drinking at Coddringtons to worry about mundane things like laundry.

There's certainly nothing like a formal laundry at Castara - or within 45 minutes drive - but have a word with the manager of wherever you are staying; I'm sure they can probably make arrangements for someone in the village to do laundry for you.

Have a great trip and be sure to let us all know how you get on.

Carol, most places you stay at In Castara will do your laundry on a roughly 24 /48 service, for about TT$25/30 washed sun dried and folded. There is a place in Castara that opened in Jan/Feb this year that does a laundry service, just up the hill from King David on the left.
Otherwise,one on,one clean,one in the wash!!!!
David(the count down will be starting soon) :D

@ carol: enjoy your holiday, you'll be wearing swimsuits most of the time anyway... so not much to wash

A mundane question about laundry

Post by Carol Townsend »

Thanks all!
David, my mum would say:"one wearing, one airing, and one in the wash".I have been told by seasoned travellers that you can wear it,put it at the bottom of the pile for a week, and then it emerges fresh and uncreased. Can't say I 'm too keen on trying that one.(Oh dear, back to underpants again) :(
Incidentally, in case you wonder why I have not said where we are staying, I hope you don't think we are squatting or sleeping on the beach! It's just that the owner of the property does not generally rent it out commercially; he uses it himself, or lets it to friends or work colleagues. He says he is no businessman! (keeps out any riff -raff too! )
Must go, have important things to do,like ironing.
Cheers, Carol

Hey Carol,

hope you enjoy your stay in Castara and hopefully will not see these "unspeakable" :-# underpants. Can't belive how many times it comes back into the focus!

Laundry will not be a problem, just ask and peolple will offer you service. But as Steph wrote: what laundry are you going to wash?? you are wearing swim suits. maybe a t-shirt and shorts and that's it! nothing to wash in two or three weeks time.

take care and have a carib on me when you're there %*}

Jealous Gisela who cannot go back for this year

This is just pants !!

Anyway ... when I stayed at the Naturalist, the entrepeneurial Ancle and his busy team were always happy to do my laundry (including the underpants!) for a small fee ... I think the last time they dispatched my garments off to someone else.

So try them even if you are not staying there ... I am sure all the other hosts in Castara would do the same.

The other option could be to use the old fashioned route and give your garments a good whacking on the rocks under the Castara Waterfall.

One thing I have found is difficult at times is drying clothes due to the humidity and occasional showers that always catch you out.

Hope this helps.

Paul, why does it not surprise me that Ancle sub-contracted the laundry of your undergarments to someone else. Nice move, Ancle! :P

If the resident weather guru can't forecast the occasional showers that always catch you out how on earth are we mere mortals supposed to time our under garment washing with a period of clement drying weather?

Having said that, even if your smalls do get caught in a shower, the sun will always be out 10 minutes later and they'll be steaming away, probably adding to the humidity, in no time.
Take only photos - leave only footprints. I like that concept.

Ha Ha

Hey ... I think a special price is required to give out warnings for trivial showers that pass by and soak your washing

Anyway ... I am not sure if Ancle spotted the undergarments ... I cunningly slotted them in at the bottom of the pile to avoid detection ... this probably explains why they eventually got lost and their precise whereabouts has now reached Lord Lucan proportions.

I still reckon the best tip so far is that Gisela paid a good price for them from the ebay site that Steve located some months ago.

Not sure how they got on ebay though ... David?

it will always run on and on, as long as a topic will touch pauls unmentionables earlier or later or as soon as it touches the age of a certain group of folks in here... they'll never stop!
so beware!

 steph

PS: oh yes, and if you start talking about bait in the activities section... but I personally don't follow those (it is like chinese to me). I still find there should be whole seperate fishing section :D

This is getting silly.

If it wasn't for this nonsense about my pants I am sure this thread would have been more 'brief' and to the point.

maybe we should have a "pauls unmentionables" section. so only people who are not doing the most serious research are going there...

@paul: nice word-game!
