Excellent and informative website, thanks Steve and Jill. We are going to the Coco Reef at the beginning of December on an all inclusive basis. Are there plenty of shaded areas away from the beach? I noted the comment on towels being placed strategically at break of day!! Do all flights disembark at Grenada or is it just Monarch? Are US Dollars accepted in Tobago? Finally how much is the jeep hire at the hotel? I would appreciate any advice on the above. I promise to provide a briefing on the website post Coco Reef. Take Care All.

Hi Tim

Answers to most of your questions are in my reply to you post “Coco Reef”.

I’m afraid I don’t know how much the jeep hire is when arranged by the hotel – I would email hotel and ask them if I were you. We’re researching the whole subject of car hire at the moment. Be warned – it is a nightmare subject. Standards of service are relatively low in this field and most of the smaller rental agencies are running very old, unreliable cars – and seldom have the backup to provide another car/jeep when yours breaks down. This is the last thing you want when you are touring the isolated areas of the island, such as in the rain forest. Phone boxes are few and far between and as much as the locals will do everything possible for you, they can’t suddenly magic up a car from the other end of the island.

Based on personal experience, I would certainly avoid Bairds, who are based at the airport. Thrifty are the biggest (and possibly the most expensive) but at least they have a large fleet of new(ish) vehicles, I understand.
