Hello there,
I am new to this site so please excuse me if I've posted this topic on the wrong page!
I just wanted to say how useful I have found the site, but I am now quite worried about my trip to Tobago in April 05.
My partner and I are due to get married at Le Grand Courlan resort during our 2 week holiday there, but we have read many bad reviews not only on this site, but other review sites too.
I was just wondering if anyone has been to this resort recently and has anything positive to say - the last review I read (not on this site) said that no one uses the beach because there are stray dogs all over it!! Also what sort of weather can we expect in April?
I look forward to hearing from someone.
Many thanks

Hi Alexandra
Welcome to the site
Just to reassure you, I got married on Tobago and haven't regretted it for a second. If I were you, I would ignore all these bad reports that people keep, erm, reporting. Tobago is not Barbados or St Kitts. It's not polished to perfection and the people are too laid back to give you the silver service treatment wherever you go. You will get what you paid for... a comfortable, easy-going holiday with few frills.
One of the reasons we chose Tobago was that it was much more reasonably-priced than some of the other islands. I think the problem lies with people who expect a lot more for a lot less money.
I don't know much about LGC, but I know the owner of this site likes the hotel a lot, and I trust his judgement more than anyone's.
I also don't know much about the weather in April, but you can expect rain wherever you go at the time of year. At least it will be warm rain and the sun will be hot inbetween times!
Have you read the weddings section on this site?
Have fun.
Rachel

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for your comments.
I haven't looked at the wedding section as yet, but will do when I get a moment. Unfortunately I only found this site AFTER we had booked the wedding and the holiday at LGC.
I guess we'll have to wait and see when we get there!
Once again, many thanks for your comments.

Oh yes, dogs...
I forgot to talk about the dogs.
There *are* a lot of stray dogs on Tobago and it is a bit heart-breaking, especially if they seem to be ill, limping, three-legged or lonely. I think it's important to remember that by nature dogs are pack animals, love being outside more than anything and that they will beg, even if they have just eaten. They only seem to be a real problem to the tourists.
I ignored them if I could, consoling myself with the above. I wouldn't say the beach at LGC is any worse than any other beach, and for me it was almost the worst thing about the island. If that's the only bad thing i can say, then the rest of it must have been extra special...

Le Grand Courlan
Please read "Wedding at Le Grand Courlan - October 2004" a topic posted recently by Fiona and Kevin in the hotel section as I think yoiu will find this useful.
As for the dogs on the beach there are lots of comments on this site about the beach, dogs etc. There are some private houses, etc nearby and I think they come from there, they certainly don't look like strays as they are too friendly. They may be thin by our UK fat standards of unhealthy animals, but running around in the Caribbean they look OK. They are only small! They weren't a pain unless you made a fuss of them. Don't let this worry you.
Best of luck on your upcoming wedding.
