have four new goood pool tables at cascreole now. even had a serious tournament for new years. so hey should have proper equipment for you now. debby is ready whith the caribs for you and we still have your envelope with your betmoney here.... come and drink it out....

by the way brian is too busy on tours, so it was steph coming in for the lotion and the beer

Hi Paul,

I was watching TV and there was a report from Venezuela going under some heavy rains and floods of the big rivers. Do you, in your opinion, think that the floods will effect the visibility in Tobago’s waters?

Sorry for the delay in replying, I have been off the internet for 24 hours due to technical problems.

The heavy rains over the South American mainland have been falling mainly to the west.

Any local run off from these rains is more likely to affect the seas around the Dutch Antilles.

I appreciate that the Orinoco river has a big influence in the waters around Tobago and that this river would inevitably carry some of the excess waters.

The Orinoco generates alot of rich food for the sea life around Tobago but I doubt that silt or mud run-off would get as far as Tobago (i.e.; silt is quite heavy and settles around it's immediate vicinity).

Tobago has had enough of it own locally produced run-off, particularly around Charlottesville and I understand from other threads that the development of the new road between L'Ansi Forum and Charlottesville has made matters worse under the recent circumstances.

I would welcome any feedback from anyone that can report if the recent calmer and drier weather has allowed the clarity in the water to improve in recent weeks.

Hi Paul

Returned Tuesday and during our 2 weeks the clarity of the water on the Caribbean side was poor. Although not a diver myself, I know from conversation that Hilton diving were taking people up to Speyside and also were diving all around Crown Point. At times the sea was quite calm the Atlantic side, whilst it was rough on the Caribbean side. Having taken a trip on Island Girl I can vouch for that! On that day the boat could not go up onto the beach at Cotton Bay because of the swell and no-one snorkelled.

having returned on Friday (11/2) I can confirm that the Atlantic was calmer than the Caribbean over the last two weeks and that the visibility for diving was poorer (but not too bad) in the latter. However, during my dives at Speyside we were disappointed by the lack of notable fish life (sharks, rays etc).

The surfers amongst us however will have appreciated the consistently big/strong waves in the Caribbean over the last two weeks not to mention the amount of sunshine.

Hi Douglas and Pat and thanks for your feedback.

The weather has not been right up until now.

It is common to have quite high sea swells at this time of year but I am surprised that the swells were too strong to land a boat on Cotton Bay.

I am disappointed, yet not surprised, that the sea is cloudy, but that will be because of the swells, particularly on the Caribbean side ... but that could be good news because I am more worried about the after-effects of the mudslides which will not be apparent during heavy seas.

Perhaps the heavy seas will be useful in washing alot of the silt away.

My last forecast indicates that the weather patterns are starting to 'get normal' for the time of year ... this means that there will still be quite heavy swells at times but not as heavy as recently.

Hopefully this should improve the conditions for snorkellers and divers in the next couple of weeks.

With any luck, it will be just right for my visit in March ...

the poor visibility was from the rough seas that we have every year at this time! in between it is calm like a "mill pond", for example yesterday and from our balcony you can count the rocks and fishes in the water...

Hi Brian

Don't measure it in days ... I got 600 hours on my clock and the ticker tells me that the minutes are falling fast (36,000) and then the seconds ... whooosh ... still over the 2 million mark but falling rapidly.

Got the snorkelling gear and headsets out over the weekend, gave them a good dusting down and a little spit and polish ... just watch me go on Monday morning, 13th March ... get the boats out and I will race you to the corals

Anyway, you reminded me Brian ... our friend David Watkins asked me to tell him what the weather would be like when he gets home after his recent and most 'brief' visit to Tobago.

I calculate that David has approximately 120 hours before he walks into that sweaty waiting room at Crown Point Airport.

Add, say 9 hours for the flight home ... that's 129 hours ... guess he will touch down around the Gatwick area in approx. 7,740 minutes.

140 hours and he will be tucked up in bed recovering from the jet-lag.

If I deduct that from my 600 hours then that gives me about 460 hours in which I can constantly remind him of my impending visit to Tobago ... I have such fond memories of David's excitement as his 10 week holiday drew close

and I look forward to sharing my excitement with him about my countdown to my holiday too ... $\:D/$ $\:D/$ $\:D/$ $\:D/$ $\:D/$

Anyway, David, my man ... it will be mild and maybe a bit of drizzle ... and we are looking forward to your long awaited presence back in the UK

Lucky you ... it's rare to have 2 weeks without any rain at all ... I just hope it's the same in March.

I think I got my forecast wrong again this week ... I forecast Sun, but expected some night time showers but even those haven't materialised.

This is just as abnormal as the rainy weather up to late January ... so keeping my fingers crossed for March when I will be there.
