What's so special about Castara?

Ancle George, the owner of the Naturalist Beach asked us why we thought so many people have various comments to make on the Forum regarding Castara. My husband & I told him that we feel that Castara is unique. We've travelled widely in the Caribbean & never have experienced anything quite like Castara. To be able to be in the midst of a working fishing village and be able to interact with the villagers on a one-to-one basis is absolutely incredible! We did our shopping at the village shops and got to know the owners. We talked to the elderly fisherman who was mending the nets on the beach. We talked the the children as they made their way to and from school. From our sea-view porch at the Naturalist Beach we watched the local boys tumbling in the surf every afternoon. When you stay at a "resort" you can't possibly be a part of village life. It certainly enhanced our Caribbean vacation, and we won't stay anywhere else on Tobago!

I love reading all the comments about Castara. My better half and I only have 33 more days to go before we arrive in Castara. We have been waiting for over a year and we were concerned that it wouldn't live up to our expectations. Sounds like we have nothing to worry about. Glad you had such a great trip Joanne!

We returned from Castara on Feb 25th, and yes, I've been wondering what was so special about it, while we were there we were just too busy absorbing the total experience. David, you've said it all - its everything. Perhaps in a week or twos time we might be able to pick out the highlights and write a more objective review, but for now we just sit and smile at each other and all of our friends an work colleagues look at us and wander where we have been that can have such a totally relaxing effect.
