Turtle Time!

Post by Sabina »

Just thought I'd let anyone due to travel out soon that a friend of mine spotted the first turtle on Courland Bay last night!
I was woken at 3.30am by his excited phone call telling me he'd just sat for a hour and a half watching a turtle come out of the sea and lay her eggs in front of him. Sounded really magical.
He was down the beach from the Rex at Black Rock sitting near the big pink house.
I'll be there in 22 days and have been assured there'll be plenty to see by then.
Can't wait! :D

I HATE you

In the 47 years that I have been visiting Tobago I have NEVER seen a Giant Leatherback (I visit too early in the year). Up until two nights ago I was staying at Plantation Beach Villas in Courland Bay - just 20m from the beach. I knew the turtle season had officially started and the night watchmen knew to wake us if they spotted anything - but zilch.

It is so maddening to miss one of my life's ambitions by just two days.

Have a great holiday and send the turtles my love.

Aah, bad luck Steve! Looks like you'll have to change the timing of your trips in future. I'm going to be in Black Rock for four weeks so I'll have plenty of opportunities to send the turtles your love...he he!!
