Accomodation in Tobago

Post by Gerd Friedrich »

Hi everybody,

We´re a family fom Germany, with two girls (11 and 12) and want to spend our holidays in Tobago in August/September.
I read a lot in the forum and it is the best I ever seen so far.
As this is our first trip to the caribbean island we are looking for a nice and reasonable accomodation. Our two girls are very nice but when there are no other kids around it´s not easy for me and my wife to relax properly. Who has kids knows what I mean.
My question where is a good chance to find other children in that age?
Maybe a hotelowner or staff has kids in that age hanging around.
Where we find nice self catering accomodation with two bedrooms? I dont`t like that hotel-feeling.
And the place must be in walking distance to a calm beach with good snorkeling places.
Is that too much to whish????
Maybe anyone can help

Hi Gerd

Welcome aboard!

The only owner I know personally with kids of that age is Yvonne Gemmet of Bijou Des Caraibes - but that's on Mount Irvine so not within walking distance of the beach.

Hopefully somebody else may know of someone.

My first reaction is that you might want to consider Castara. I imagine there will be quite a few visitors there with children in August. The village is so small that you'll soon meet anyone else staying there and it won't really matter if they're staying in different accommodation because almost everywhere is within walking distance.

Thanks a lot Steve. You are doing a very good job!!

I was thinking of Castara myself, cause many posts are quite positive and it seems the place is exactly what I`m looking for.
Could you recommend a nice private accomodation, guest house or something similar were we spend a couple of weeks (perhaps with mail or phone connection?? ) in castara. >I don`t want to spend more than 100 $ per day.
Do you think it´s worthwile looking for ourselves when we arrive? Or ist it better tol book in advance for the first days via internet and look afterwards if we find something suitable.
What's the situation like in August? There are more and more flights coming in. Will it be crowdy?
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Gerd

August isn't a busy time, but its always better to book in advance. You will always find somewhere to stay, but all the best accommodation is generally booked in advance, so you'll probably not find the accommodation you would like.

Obvious choices, assuming US$100 total per night (2 bedrooms) are The Naturalist Beach Resort, Mango House and Little House On The Hill (10-minute walk to the beach). It's also worth contacting Alibaba about Sea Breeze - a bit above your budget but you might be able to do a deal as you will need 2 apartments.

Having just come back and visited Castara during the 'busiest' time of the year, I can only say that 'busy' is not a term I would apply to Castara at any time of year.
