COCO REEF OR LE GRAND COURLAN

Post by Christine »

I am travelling alone in April and woudl like a luxury hotel with excellent spa facilities and on a beach.
I have received a very good quote for Coco Reef however I wanted to check on line reviews before I booked.... I was dismayed..
I only chose Tobago as Palm Island is full until May and I need a vacation now
Steve - can you let me know in your opinion which is best - Coco reef or Le Grand courlan?

Many thansk

Hello Christine

Welcome aboard!

I'm sorry that Tobago wasn't your first choice but I'm sure you'll love Tobago.

I am somewhat surprised by your comment about being "dismayed" about reviews of the Coco Reef - particularly given the fact that you have posted this message in Le Grand Courlan's forum and haven't said the same there. I suspect you have taken a single post or two in isolation without understanding the complete picture.

Firstly, there is no "best" between the two - just as there is no "best" hotel in the world. What may appeal to you could be met by horror from someone else.
The biggest differences between the Coco Reef and LGC are the fact that the latter is half the size and adults only. This makes a considerable difference. Standards are generally a fraction higher and more consistent at the Coco Reef, but when the LGC is performing well, it is a truly excellent place.

Your best bet is to read our reviews of both these excellent hotels and try to identify that features that most/least appeal to you. By all means come back to ask any specific questions.

Thank you for your prompt reply. My alarm was caused by the insect problem, mouse problem, reference to dirty linen etc... Is this true?

In general Coco reef seemed to have more negative comments than Le Grand Courlan. It was however my initial first choice - as Palm Island and LeSport were full. I have high standards and only ever stay in 4* plus accomodations - I work very hard and this is my only treat in life!

I only decided on Sunday to book myself away - hence the rush to make a choice - unless I wait till end of May and go to St Lucia as originally planned.

I wish I hadnt read any reviews now! The most important thing is that I will feel comfortable there on my own... with this in mind which Hotel do you think woudl be more suitable? (You can tell I am libra.. cant make up my mind on anything!)

Sorry just realised why you are confused. The messages were posted on tripadvisor - and posted in March 2005..

TripAdvisor is well-known as the refuge of the malicious and the disgruntled.

Have your studied TripAdvisor reviews of Palm Island? How about rooms too dark to do your make up, noisy A/C, tons of biting insects, broken glass table, no food at beach BBQ, poor food generally, nothing like the website pictures, cold food, staff with attitude.

How about LeSport? sexual harassment by male staff, lack of professionalism among staff, food lacking and cold. I could go on...

So, I can only say forget TripAdvisor for reports about Tobago and come here. All our posts are moderated. By insisting upon posters registering under their proper name, we avoid the worst elements of the Internet.

I know nothing about insect problems, mouse problems or dirty linen at the Coco Reef. In fact I laugh at the thought and treat such reports with the contempt they deserve.

Like I say, read our full reviews and base your decision on some factual information. I simply can't tell you what hotel would be right for you - with respect, I haven't got the remotest idea of what you are like or what you like.
