POS layover

Hello, all.
I inquired about this before, but thought I'd update it with some new info, which may produce a couple of answers from the regular Tobago travelers out there.
We have what appears to be a three-hour stay in Port of Spain (airport) before flying to Tobago. Is there anything we should know about the airport and its vicinity as far as souvenir shopping, a drink at a bar (our first rum punch, perhaps?) or other sight-seeing adventures during our very small stay in Trinidad? Also, is it best to NOT venture outside the airport for the previously mentioned activities?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't believe it. Less than 45 days to go. I remember writing when it was more than 245 to go.

By the time you clear customs & allow 1 hr. prior to your filght to Tobago, you won't have much spare time. The airport is out in the middle of nowhere & it's a 20-30 min. drive into Port of Spain. So just chill out in the bar!!

We've spent quite a few hours at Piarco over several years, but we don't recall any bars inside the terminal. There's a stand just outside the airport entrance that serves soft drinks and maybe beer and other alcoholic drinks -- there are bar stools there. It is outside so no air-conditioning, but I've never found it uncomfortable.

On the way off the plane to customs, you will pass several attractive shops -- however, once you go through customs, you cannot return to that area.

The terminal has both Kentucky Fried Chicken and Churches Chicken outlets -- and in February had no local food outlets. There used to be a store with flying fish sandwiches, etc., but it was gone in February. There's also a Pizza Boys and a few small souvenir shops. There's good coconut ice cream at one place.

Piarco is small but clean and inviting. At busy times, the chairs get occupied. Once you enter the Tobago Express area, you'll find plenty of seating. Be sure to ask if they can get you on an earlier flight -- we've had that happen a few times when we've been early.
