Diving in May

Hoping to go to Tobago in May 2005 as cheaply as possible. Has anyone any tips where to find cheap flights, accommodation etc? Also what marine life are we likely to see (and where) at this time of year whilst diving?

Hi Chrissy

Bit late! But hope this will be useful!

It depends whether you want a package or seperate flights and accommodation. I am going back out on mid June and was looking for flights a couple of days ago. Thomas Cook do flights for around £500 STA.com £464, but you have to be a student under 26yrs. BA £580 and Virgin £587

You can get really cheap flights last minute, but then you can not gaurentee you will get the dates you want!

For info on what you are likely to see diving at this time of year I would advise http://www.divetobago.com email them with any que and they will be able to help!

The last thing I want to do is surpress free comment and personal opinion, but where the risk of life is at stake I would be irresponsible not to point out that we have serious concerns about Scuba Adventure Safari (SAS), recommended by Kitty above.

I'm sorry Kitty - I know you are being loyal to your friends who work at SAS - but this dive operation has a shocking reputation. Scuba diving can be a wonderful activity and Tobago has some spectacular dive spots, but they are not waters for 'chancers'. Why take risks with an outfit like SAS when 30% of the island's 18 dive shops scored a nearly perfect score on our assessment by a panel of dive experts. That's 5 world-class operations to choose from. In fact 61% of all the dive shops scored above average so are worth considering. Why use the very bottom of the list?
