Does any Kiteboarding take place in Tobago ? . If so where ?

Hi Patrick,
There is the Cool Runnings kitesurf school at Mt Irvin bay and I have seen some guys kitesufing off Crown Point on my way out to a few dive sites.

How organised it is I could not say. So far given the choice between my Kitesurfing kit and my dive gear the diving wins every time.

Hi Patrick,

Yes, Kitesurfing does happen in Tobago... The best spot on the Island is Pigeon Point... I have been to Tobago for the last two years and have kitesurfed there both times... Pigeon point is great: flat warm water which is protected by the reef and most days tend to get about 15knts which is pure heaven... However, the only problem with Pigeon Point is the launching site, as they seem to allow sun bathers to bask in the area in front of the windsurf school which is where you launch and land the kite... so be cautious here.

I am not sure what level you are, but there is a Kite school at the windsurf shack at Pigeon Point and there are also people that do dedicated Kitesurfing holidays - I can send you the links if your interested.

For the more experienced kite surfer the beach in front of the Hilton is a good spot but the water is a lot more choppy (its on the Atlantic side).

Just an update on the info above. Cool Runnings on Mt.Irvine beach have closed shop. I think your best bet is World Of Watersports - http://www.worldofwatersports.com - based at the Hilton and on Pigeon Point.

Hi Patrick,

I was interested in taking a course when I visited in January, but Coolrunnings had closed up (though their web site seemed active at the time) and WOW couldn't offer lessons as they didn't have enough kit. I guess that they only had a few kites and couldn't cover the entire windrange. I'm not sure if their capability has changed yet?

If you bring your own kit, I guess that you would be OK, but as previously mentioned, the proximity to tourists at Pigeon point is worrying, and you also need to be aware of the reef and rocks

I've settled for learning static flying (Flexifoil Blades etc) in the UK and probably try Buggying before I return next December / January to try Kitesurfing if available then.

Do you already kitesurf?
