Report: Birdie's Nest

Spent two post-carnival days at Birdie's Nest and I highly recommend the establishment. Prince Robinson, the owner/manager was charming. And his Auntie was a joy to speak with. Birdie's Nest is just a few steps away from the shore line in Black Rock. It is beautifully landscaped and very clean. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful.

The property has 3 apartments, the large 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms can easily sleep 6 or more. And has wonderful beamed ceilings and ceiling fans. The 2 bottom apartments are air conditioned and have one bedroom each. All apartments have immaculate kitchens and bathrooms.

I intend to stay there again next year as my Carnival rest stop and recovery center.

Just retuned (fri 25) from my second stay at Birdie's nest and can back up everything Shelley has said. Both Prince and his mum were very helpful and the apatment was great. Would highly reccomend to anybody looking for a relaxing base while on the island.

Since I wouldn't hire a car but go around by bus, can you tell me if you had seen any bus stop near Birdie's?

Welcome aboard!

It's less than a five minute walk from Birdie's to the main road through Black Rock. They don't have formal bus stops in country areas - you just wave the bus down. They are few and far between, but public 'route' taxis are very frequent and again, you just stick your hand up and wait for somebody to stop, so you should have not trouble getting about.

I can't decide between Birdie's, Duke's House in Black Rock and the BananaBoat Inn at Charlotteville.
The last one has a nice website but I saw a bad review of this. Do you know it too?
I would like to have a nice accomodation, not so expensive, close to the beach (closest possible ), not so far from some shops (to get the necessary to cook ecc.) and, if possible, not in a very tourist area. Ah, forgot, for my husband it should have air condition since we go at the beginning of august....
Not so easy ..

Hi Sandra

I've just replied to your other post about Duke's. I don't know it personally, but its very close to Birdies. I can't comment on the accommodation, but if Yes Tourism are handling reservations, you can guarantee that it will be of good, if basic, standard.

Both places are no more than 5-minutes walk from the main street through Black Rock village and not much more to the small mini-mart in the village.

I am familiar with the Banana Boat Inn in Charlotteville. It would not be my choice.

I'm sorry, but none of these places will have air-conditioning. As a general rule, only the large hotels and most expensive villas have air-conditioning.

I had a look on the webpage http://www.birdiesnesttobago.com and they indicated an air-conditioned room.
"yes" did the same with Duke's http://www.yes-tourism.com/dukes.htm (but I think it is recently made).

Well, I trust both sources totally, so I assume that must be correct. I must admit, more and more places are fitting air-conditioning, although in truth, Tobago has such lovely cooling breezes that A/C is seldom necessary (at least as far as Jill and I are concerned).

Banana Boat is probably OK if you like partying and loud noise all night... I would not stay there as it seemed to me there was no escape from the noise of the very regular parties.

Good for cocktails though!

I am very delighted to see all the great comments here on my guest house Birdie’s Nest. Thanks Steve for all the wonderful things you have written on my guest house. I and my mother both try to make guest feel home away from home. I love the natural essence of life and I try for my guest to capture those feelings from the atmosphere around my home. I also love to see family and honey moon guest well enjoy there stay. To me family and guest on there honey moon life would always last a life time of memories.
I would be here in the forum to help answer some of your questions on post about Birdies Nest and would answer them for others to view at the same time.

Our family of four stayed on the top floor of Birdies Nest during the first two weeks of May 05. The two bedroom apartment was exactly as described on the web site. The pictures of the beach on the web site don't do it justice. It is much more beautiful than it appears in the pictures. The complex is right on the beach with an unobstructed view of the beach and the ocean. Prince and his mother are wonderful and will go out of their way to help you. The apartment is immaculate and the bed in the master bedroom is extremely comfortable. The night we arrived Prince took us out at midnight to see a turtle on the beach. The beach goes on forever and our kids found a great snorkeling spot right in front of the villa. There was hardly anyone else on the beach. It is a very quiet area. We had a car for the two weeks from Sheppy and everything they say about him is true also. He was great.
