jetlag

Post by V Fabry »

we are going to toboago for a week this summer and people keep telling me that it will take days to get rid of our jetlag, so it is hardely worthwile to go for such a short period. Please reassure me that it's not true. We are flying in the daytime, leaving at 10 am in amsterdam and arriving 4pm local time in tobago. :D

Hi V, dont worry! You will wake up at 6. a.m. fresh and ready for a full day of activity. O.K., you are tired at 7 p.m. after dinner, but this is not so bad because of the missing spectacular nightlife on Tobago.
Have a great time!

Set your watch to Tobago time as soon asyou board the plane - this gives your mind nine hours to acclimatise..................of course you need to do the opposite on the way home.

Take it from me it works

As they say, it´s not a big problem at all. When you arrive you might be tired, because your body is "6 hours wrong", but´s OK because the evening is coming and you can go to sleep.
Next morning, get up and get as much daylight as possible every day, that will help you body to adjust and get use to local time.
And you are on vacation, so you will relax and have a nice time

Jetlag is a pleasant experience when you arrive in Tobago.

It gets you up early and sets the agenda of early nights and early mornings and helps you to make the most of your day.

On the contrary ... going home is awful ... it can take me 2 weeks or more to get my clock right as I struggle to sleep at night and struggle even more to wake in the mornings.

I guess the negative aspect of this is that you are back to your daily pressures which do not help on your return from holiday whereas it is so much easier to cope with the change when you arrive for your holiday in Tobago.

I wonder what it would be like coming back from a timezone in the other direction such as Thailand ... ?

Flying from East to West, which is what you will be doing when you arrive is not nearly as hard on the body, as flying West to East. You'll be fine when you get to Tobago. It's when you go home, that you'll need a day or so to recover!!

Jetlag! Yuk!

I totally agree with Joanne, we have always found that we go to bed early on our arrival night in the caribbean. However, the jetlag when we arrive home from the caribbean is horrible. Make sure you allow a couple of days to recover on your return home.

Have a terrific holiday and make the most of every minute.

Regards,
Kayla

Maybe I'm lucky but I find that if I stay up until 11.00 p.m or later on our first night then I sleep through until at least 7.00 am next day and don't have any body clock problems at all.

Similarly, on the way home I try to sleep on the plane (depends on circumstances - I'll put details in another post!) then stay up that night and wake up as usual at 6.30 am ready to face work!

It works for me - it may work for you!
