Teenagers in Tobago

Post by Paul Tallet »

This is in response to an enquiry by Paolo Mariani in the Paradise Found Villa section of the Accomodation Forum.

It is an interesting question about what a 16 year old would do in Tobago and where he would find mates of his own age etc ... so I suppose the question may get more attention in the General Forum ... I am sure that there are many teenagers that read this and may want to make their views known.

From my experience of having 3 children spanning teenage years I guess there is a sense of trepidation in terms of not having the mobile phone, the prospect of sleeping in the same room as your brother and sister and detachment from your mates back home.

My 3 children seem to adapt quite readily to the complete change of being in Tobago ... we do not stay in resorts and therefore my children are free to mix with the local community where we stay ...

... I have noticed that the interaction they have with Tobagonians is very different to the relations they have at home, there seems to be little distinction between the young and adult in terms of being able to take part in conversation, games and other day to day activities ... my children always seem to receive as much respect and attention as I do.

I guess everything is different for teenagers in Tobago ... maybe some Teenagers that have been to Tobago would like to forward their opinions?
