Our DIY Tobago Wedding

Post by Linda P »

Hi All,

We were married on 27th May 2005 on Grafton Beach and arranged the whole wedding ourselves, there is no need for a wedding planner unless you really want to use one.
You have to be on the island for five days before you can obtain a marriage license, this includes the day you arrive and weekends, we arrived on a Thursday, and obtained our license on the Monday.
All we did was take our passports, divorce papers, birth certificates and flight tickets to the Inland Revenue Office in Scarborough (Sangster Hill Road, but anyone in Scarborough will give you directions). When you walk into the office there are a few counters and it is not really apparent where to go(we just asked a lady at a vacant counter), you are taken to an office behind the counter, where you fill in a few forms, they fill in a few, you hand over 300tt and are given a license which is valid for six months, easy as that!
Our Minister, Rev Claude Cowie, was reccomended by our host at Hummingbird Heights, Shirley. We contacted Rev Claude prior to travelling to book a date, explained that we hadn't decided which beach and would be in touch a few days after we arrived.
It was then a simple matter of looking at a couple of beaches, we chose Grafton (right at the end, away from the hotel). Rev Claude visited us at our apartment a few days before the wedding to finalise details, and instruct us on the secrets of a successful marriage.
Our beach wedding was truly wonderful, we were accompanied by friends from home and those we had met in Tobago, and a couple of beach dogs! Rev Claude conducted a beautiful service, we then all returned to Hummingbird Heights to sign the register and enjoy a bbq around the pool (prepared by our guests!)
I would like to thank Shirley and Alex from Hummingbird Heights for there help during the day with preparations and taxi services, Rev Claude for a really special service and Joyce from Scarborough House, Bon Accord (I stayed there the night before my wedding with a friend and her family, tradition ofcourse!), for my bouquet and flowers for my daughters hair, cut from her garden!
This really was the best day of my life!
If anyone would like any help or contact details, I would be happy to oblige.

Hi Jenice

We used Rev Claude Cowie, tel 639 7669, I'm not sure what the dialling code would be from Tindad. As I said,we made preliminary arrangements over the phone, and then finalised everything once we had arrived, he was a really nice man and I would reccomend anyone to use him.
