Thank you myTobago

Post by Lily Mel »

Hi All,

While I'm typing and reading myTobago my memories are going back when I visited my family in Indonesia two times.

The preparing to visit Tobago is nice but maybe in my case a little too much in a sort of cramp.

In Indonesia I visited "untouched" places where almost no tourists are comming. Twice I bacame very sick. The last time was the worst one and I was thinking to die. (no doctor in the neighbourhood!)
I have to say that I didn't prepare, just had a book with do's and don'ts.
I'm very happy to read things here but I have to say what my background conditions are.

I'm nervous and looking for reassurance, which is wrong.
Happy now that I learn more over here about myself I have to look for balance. Thank you MyTobago.

Hi Lily

Fear not! Tobago is NOT Indonesia. The island is only 40km long and 12km wide, so very small. If you are staying in the most popular Crown Point-Plymouth-Scarborough triangle, you will always be within 30 minutes drive of Scarborough hospital and within 30-minutes airlift of all the truly excellent medical facilities on Trinidad.

Even outside the triangle, you will never be more than a 2 hour drive from Scarborough. There is no visitor accommodation on the island that is not within 15 minutes drive of a major village - all of which have local nurses. Yes, doctors may only visit the local health centres once or twice a week, but remember, you will never be more than a 2-hour drive away from the hospital.

Bad luck seems to strike us on every visit and we always joke about the amount of time we spend in doctors surgeries, dentists and pharmacies during our visits. There isn't a pharmacy on the island that we haven't visited. In every case we have been impressed by standards of care offered. The medical facilties on the island may be lacking by best European standards, but the level of care is every bit as good.

So, relax and enjoy!
