Well, it certainly would be natural and organic. Maybe a few dabs around the ears and face would keep the mossies away as well.

I'm begining to think you really don't care about my trousers

Hence I have decided to take matter into my own hands (not Paul's smalls, just the problem).

Having weighed-up, mulled-over and conjugated all of the useful advice so generously given on these pages (it would appear Paul's underpants have never had such an airing), I feel I may have come up with a solution: my other half is off to M&S today on a mission to seek out some trousers that can be machine washed!

To Paul - about sandflies

Post by Gisela Grell »

Dear Paul, now I know why sandflies always come up to me when I'm in Castara. Not on English Mans Bay and not in Crown Point but on my favourite beach "little bay"....

On one of my first holidays in Castara I flew back with a foot twice as big as normal and had to cool it the whole flight. The servants at the plane looked at my foot and the only comment was: sure, sandflies! so they gave me a plastic bag of ice.

Next holiday I took some antihistamine and creme myself with lemon oil (not that it effects the sandflies, just to give me the feeling I can do something against it) :(
May be I'm helping you to keep the sandflies in Castara because it seems that they see me coming (and I change my underware every day)

Any more questions?

Have a cold carib on me and the sandflies
I don't give up: I try to come back late September/early October
Cheers

We are going to be in Castara for our first visit to Tobago at the very end of September/beginning of October, Gisela. I am most delighted that you will be taking care of these nasty sandflies that I keep reading about.

Perhaps see you there for a Carib?

UNDERPANTS UPDATE

Having just caught up with this thread I have to pay my respects to poor Gary who must have had no idea that his innocent and very interesting enquiry about the care and maintenance of his trousers would be overshadowed by all this intrigue about my (now famous) underpants and their apparent qualities.

I am, however, rather reluctant to spend too much time during my holidays in Tobago undertaking painstaking research to test the theory that my underpants have unique features that could be deemed repellant to sandflies.

Obviously, I am mindful that the decision I have reached may cause some alarm and therefore I have thought of a possible solution that could be for the benefit of all interested parties.

I am therefore reluctantly prepared to offer one pair from my very limited collection of unique underpants to the myTobago Competition and the winner can wear them, wave them, carry them and/or lay them in any sandfly infested area of Tobago that they choose ... and analyse the results for themselves !!

If this raises more money for myTobago ... and helps the lucky winner to combat those nasty sandflies ... then, judging by the intrigue this topic has attracted, I think this could be one of the top prizes ... eh?

Paul

I am dumbstruck and humbled by your generosity. I’m sure our readers will join me in expressing our gratitude. This is undoubtedly the icing on the cake. However, I feel it far too valuable a prize to be included in our normal monthly draws (???). It therefore gives me great pleasure to announce that in addition to our normal monthly competitions, this exciting star prize will be awarded to one lucky winner in a special prize draw at the end of the year, selected from all the competition tickets issued during 2005.

Once again, Paul, my deep appreciation.

No problem Steve

I feel proud to be able to contribute to this important cause.

Thanks to your idea, at least I will get a bit more use out of it before the end of the year

Underware and sandflies

Post by Gisela Grell »

Hi Jo B, when you come to Tobago just watch out for a very short lady (short brown hair) with a tale of sandflies following her at the beaches at Castara :(
You are lucky because I plan my next visit this year also end of september/early october and surely will keep away all the sandflies from you.
Unfortunately I have no chance to win Paul's "magic underpants" before I come up because Steve decided to make Paul's underpants a special price and can not be win before the end of the year....
 Why do you do this to me, Steve? #-o

And Jo, I would really like to have some Carib with you. If this is you very first visit to Tobago you choose the right place! Watch out for me at Hazel's Restaurant (Max's shop) or ask for "shorty" at the fishermans place.

Coming back soon!!!
All the best to all mytobago-readers and -writers

Fear Not, Shorty

Just look at this way: You're bound to be coming back in future years, so if you do manage to win this spectacular prize, you will be able to let it 'mature' until your next visit. Not too long though, or it might work on people as well as sandflies. Mind you, having Tobago all to yourself is not a bad idea and you will really be able to believe that you are Robinson Crusoe.

 You Guys are just RIDICULOUS! *jokingly*

Ridiculous, yet genuis! =D> You can just imagine my shock at how much attention Paul T's underpants have gotten (not surprisingly, from ladies only). I like how Paul and Steve quickly turned Paul's underpants with their unique charachteristics into a "business" venture (the resourceful gents that they are), which got me to thinking.....

a little more seriously, though , Steve, can MyTobago members who donate be given a MyTobago T-shirt? Sort of like buying the T-shirt. Not to state the obvious, but the cost of production will have to be very low ( i dont know a thing about these kinds of costs), for there to be a profit made, which would go to the Site. Just in case you like the idea, i'd like to make an appeal to other members:

"DOES ANYONE HERE OWN A GARMENT FACTORY AND CAN HELP OUT HERE?! A MYTOBAGO T-SHIRT!!! YOU CAN HAVE ONE OF YOUR VERY OWN!"

Hi Carla

Good idea and one that is already on the back-burner, together with myTobago baseball caps. It was something suggested by a reader last year and then mentioned to me a couple of times while visiting Tobago. To be honest, I simply haven't had the time to look further into it, but if any readers know any good sources, please let me know.

I'm also very interested in comments on colours and designs and if we have any friendly graphic artists out there who would like to combine our logo above into an attractive and interesting design for t-shirts and/or a baseball cap, please contact me!

Sorry to drag this thread back (!) but I have pondered with some concern the fact that you plan to keep Paul's underpants until the end of the year. My worry is that you must be keeping them in some secret location in Britain until the required time when they will be duly unveiled in some kind of big ceremony?

I just wanted to ask that you check out the legalities of this under the EU legislation for the storage of particular items that may have implications on the health and well being of citizens within your area. Cheese has to be pasteurised (well, the milk does first). So in order to comply with any relevant legislation, I suggest you give said underpants a good boil first.

Problem being, of course, this will more than likely remove any insect repellant properties from the pants making the research rather suspect and difficult to measure!!

Couple of points ...

Tracey ... the underpants will be maintained effortlessly in their natural state until called for ... on this basis, their legendary powers will be preserved organically and ready for optimum use.

Steve ... I know a firm that do design labels and prints for T-Shirts, Baseball Caps, they will print anything ... I guess they would even do underpants ... no task too large or too small  ... I will get their details.

There are lots of companies UK wide who will print t-shirts, baseball caps and other merchandise - but they will require a suitable image to work from.

I'm afraid my expertise is only in textiles retail not design - but I'm sure that somewhere out there in mytobago land there must be someone who would love to create a design to be immortalised on "mytobago" items. And then lots of us would, no doubt, be prepared to invest in stylish designer merchandise!!!

Another source of income for the site, Steve?

Robinson Crusoe and Baseball cap

Post by Gisela Grell »

Well Steve,

I already see myself all alone on the beach in Tobago with Pauls pants (beside me on the sand, sorry Paul I'm NOT going to WEAR this thing if I win it), a mytobago-baseballcap and a mytobago-t-shirt and nobody will be around ....

I think I better stay with the lemon oil and keep away from the sand

Go on with the idea of caps and shirts, I surely will buy and wear them with proud!

Hmm ... can't say that I derive much pleasure from the thought that the underpants I give away could be languishing on a beach in Tobago ... without me in them !!!
