As previously mentioned in an earlier thread - The July issue of Sea Angler magazine carries an article on fishing for Tarpon around Tobago and the August issue will feature a follow-on piece about fishing for Jacks.
Hope anyone interested in sport-fishing will find them informative.

November Fishing
Any thoughts on fishing during November - good time of year? I am in the states and have no way of getting article about tarpon and jacks. I plan on bringing a 8wt fly rod but am considering buying a 10wt. Do you think I would need the larger rod? I plan on fishing from the shore. Any tips on equipment or flies would be great. Thanks for all the info you have already put in the web site - it is the only thing I have found on the web.

Thanks for all the tips - you are costing me alot of money! I just bought an 8wt and am now looking for a 10 or 12 as I don't want to get there and not be prepared. I would love to see the article - you can email it to: [email protected]. I am very excited about fishing in Tobago and will make sure to let you know how it goes. I am taking your tips on flies to my local shop this week so they can help me pick out what I will need. I will try to take photos if I catch anything - you'll have to let me know how to post them. Thanks again and any other tips would be great. Have you ever fished in Trinidad? We will be there a few days before we come to Tobago.

I've tried to send the jack article to Stephan and BJack, but the mails have been bounced on a number of occasions. This may be due to the size of the file.
The same article emailed to Oliver and Colin appears to have made it to their destinations - at least I have assumed it got through (no feedback).

Thanks so much for the article - I can't wait to catch a Jack! As I said I just picked up a 10wt rod this week and am bringing my 8wt also. I will post a full report on my return. Wanted to ask if it was safe to go down to the beach early in the morning by myself - I have some concerns after reading a few other forums on safety. Thanks again for all your posts - I have been taking them to my local fly shop - everyone is interested. I plan on dropping off pictures there if/when I catch anything.

I've just bought myself a 10wt too.
I'm off to Belize in a few weeks time and would really like to catch a permit on the fly. I've seen what a 12lb fish can pull like and I don't think my 8wt is up to it.
I would have no concerns about being down on the beach before dawn, at least not from human interference. Mostly, the people you'll meet will be either jogging, swimming, bathing or walking. A few might be fishing, so it's always worth striking up a conversation with anyone and you will always get a smile and a ''good morning'' back.
Just be aware that some of the beaches are steep and the surf can be a problem if you get out of your depth if wading. My advice would be to stay on dry ground, especially in the dark on an unfamiliar beach. The rocks too can be very slippery early in the morning, so please take care - you don't want to break your new rod (or your arm) if you fall.
I really hope that you catch your jack - you will be impressed by their power and stamina, but they aren't exactly common. I reckon that if I fish every morning and evening, then I might catch a couple during each holiday. Of course you might strike lucky and catch your first jack on your first cast, just like Mike did! If you do, then get your lure back in the water asap - there could be others out there.

Sorry Steve. No article arrived.Tks for effort anyway. Will try to do some fishing from the shores of the bays of the north. Is it a must to go early in the morning? How about dusk?Will try white and red Rapala wobblers, large Toby spoons and black/silver Rapalas. Wish me luck
