Gentlemen

I am sorry but I have had a bit of a day's work and just got on the site ... but thank you for all this feedback.

I have to admit that I noticed some 'turning' in the storm cells as they approached ... by the time the storms had dissipated there was a small general circulation in the storm cluster but it died out pretty quickly.

These storms are known as 'Hadley Cells' (AKA potentially very violent tropical thunderstorms) and they can produce all kinds of nasty things very quickly and then disappear just as quickly once they have dropped their load, so to speak.

Put this one down to an Inter Tropical Convergence Experience !!

I hope there were no casualties ... not seen anything in the local news.

Warm

Post by Bob White »

Thanks for continued weather updates Paul.

We returned home yesterday after nearly five weeks on the island. The weather was generally very good (local friends say much drier than this year's supposed dry season). The worst day for weather was on Wednesday 24th August when a heavy sustained downpour appeared to affect the whole island. Much excess water flowed down the roads but to our knowledge no major problems. Barbados seems to have just experienced the same this week.

Although I didn't have my thermometer with me (!), the seas appeared to feel the warmest we have ever experienced in the Caribbean...... especially on the Windward side. If this is so, fingers crossed that no more hurricanes pass close by this year. Do you have any views on whether sea temperatures are higher this year?

Regards,

Bob.

Yes Bob

the SST (Sea Surface Temperatures) are very high this year and this is a factor that is contributing to the very active season.

You may have noticed that Storm development, this year, has not really happened in the Atlantic (generally) ... most of it waits until it gets to the warms seas in the Caribbean.

Glad you had good weather.

Hi Paul;
I leave tomorrow morning. I can't wait, it's very blustery here this morning after the passage of the remnants of "Alpha", Wilma and the low off the Carolina's that formed an incredible Noreaster !
What is your forecast for beautiful, tropical Tobago ? Have the seas returned to normal ?
Thanks as always;

Hi Roger

Unfortunately it is looking a little unsettled ... I will soon be posting an update on Liquid Sunshine soon about a Tropical Wave approaching from the east.

The sea should be back to normal but it looks a little wet from tonight through to Saturday ... there are prospects of Cyclonic development after the Wave has entered the Caribbean Sea so hopefully no white knuckle rides for you this time.

You should have a smooth trip ... the rest of the Caribbean is quiet after the Storms.

Hi Paul and all!
Greeting from beautiful Tobago 8) The sun is shining, the birds are singing and the people are beautiful !
Friday's weather:
We literally had liquid sunshine on that day, got a brief sprinkle at about 7:30 in the morning and again at about 01:00 pm at Pigeon Point, the weather absoulutely georgeous. That night is poured briefly and as fast as the weather moved in, it moved out.
Saturday' Weather:
It rained most of the morning and early evening, so I conducted more experiments that day from the balcony overlooking the Atlantic. Went over to a couple of friends staying at Sandy Point that afternoon and the weather cleared to reveal the most beautiful sunset, not too mention BA's 777 and Virgin's 747 that touched down at Crown Point at 05:30 and 06:00 pm. I thought they were going to land on Sandy Point, my spirits must have been to high :shock:
Sunday's Weather:
Sunday was a perfect day, the best day anyone could ever ask for, that night, at about 7:00, it poured briefley, cooled things down at bit had a night cap and off to bed.
Monday's Weather, so far:
A bit cloudy at sunrise, but as of now, 09:50 am Tobago time, the sun is out and I'm off to do some snorkelling;
A special note to Steve Wooler;
Sheppy is the best !!!
Cheers everyone!

Hi Paul;
Yesterdays weather got off to a good start, after 02:00 PM, it started to rain slightly. From 03:00 PM or so it came down, blinding rain, I cannot remember the last time I saw that kind of rain. After about an hour or so of that, it cleared up a bit, but remained cloudy the rest of the night, not too much breeze either, rather still, but no rain.
This morning, so far, th sun is out and we're heading off to the north of the island with mytobago info very handy.
Cheers.

Hi Roger

It has been a little rainy over the weekend ... it is now much drier and sunny for a few days ... may catch the odd shower from an area of rain passing to the south into Venezuela along the ITCZ.

Enjoy the sunshine.

Cheers

Hi Paul;
I'm in Trinidad at the moment, my vacation is now winding down. I leave for NY on Tuesday.
On Tuesday we headed up the Charlotteville, just around Speyside a rather heavy shower came down, we got off the road for a bit at the Speyside lookout, 10 minutes later the rain blew over and the rest of the day was sunny, warm and a bit humid, the A/C in the car was cranking cold - would not expect anything less from Sheppy.
The Road from Charlotteville to L'Anse is still un paved and should not be travled unless you have a 4x4.
On Wednesday we headed up on the caribbean side of the island, wow - the scenery was really spectacular, I forgot my camera at the hotel that day :evil: Sh$$#t...
We had lunch at Castara, but the D'Almond tree was closed, but never the less it was great - Everyone at the Naturalist sends their regards.
Next we headed up the coast to Englishman's bay and was accompanied by a brief shower, but soon cleared -
Here's an only in Tobago Story - While on the way up, I stopped and asked wheather or not I was headed in the right direction, so I stopped and asked this fellow, he said to me 'Yes, you're on the right road, but in as much as you're heading that way, my car broke down and my wife, Eula runa a cafe on the beach, green and white, you can't miss it, could you drop these plates and cups up there for me, tell her That I have car trouble, I'm waiting on the mechanic and I'll call her later" So off I went to Englishman's bay with cups and plates in the back seat, found Eula and gave 'em to her - I said to myself, wow, that why we like Tobago so much, the charm of it's people.
My last day there, Thursday, we rushed off to Pigeon Point to catch a last dip, the weather was a bit unsetteled and we were dreanched with loads of liquid sunshine, but who cared - ah, alas.
Oh, on Wednesday and on Thursday night, I met the mytobago diving guru and the Kariwak and had loads of fun, the food was GREAT. Dining there is a must while on the island.
Cheers !
Roger.

Hi Roger

Thanks for that lovely report. I'm delighted that you had a great trip. That story about Eula's husband is just SO Tobago. Where else in the world would someone give a complete stranger a pile of crockery and trust them to drop it off somewhere for you? Its wonderful to hear these stories and to know that the old values are not dying to quickly.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Weather last week

Post by Nita »

As we are flying to Tobago on Friday, I have been watching the weather forecast very closely. It looks like it rains every day with some thunderstorms. Can anybody tell me if it really rains all day? Or is there a change I will get a little sun tan?...

Nita

It does not rain every day. Some days are showery and with lengthy sunny periods. Some days can be quite rainy and some can give you 12 hours of solid sunshine.

Being tropical, you should expect some rain while in Tobago no matter what time of year you visit.

It is down to luck and timing and you would be very unlucky to have rain for more than 2 days at a time.

Welcome aboard!

Just the bikini. No need to pack the raincoat - remember, if it rains its only Liquid Sunshine. Its warm and seldom lasts long.

Hi Paul

I've sent off about nine emails to various football-related addresses but more than half bounced back as invalid addresses or mailbox full. I'll certainly be posting a message if I get a response.
