My girlfriend and i are both divers, she is also a sufer. Are there any surf shops, camps or instructors that can teach me the basics. Are there any surf shops that rent boards?

Hi Bray

Welcome aboard!

Hmmm! You've got me thinking now. I've only ever seen surfing done in one area - Mt.Irvine/Grange beach - although I believe someone did tell me that there was good surfing in Bacolet Bay (Blue Haven Hotel).

I don't know of any watersports centre that do tuition or hire boards, but have a look in our Out & About/Activities/Sailing & Watersports/Other Water Activities section and contact World of Watersports.

Alternatively, if you want to see the 'real' Tobago and stay up-country at beautiful Batteaux Bay, write to Duane Eddy the manager of the Blue Waters Inn. His passion in life is surfing. Book a week or two there and you could probably persuade him to take you out. Either way, he'll certainly know where/what facilities are available on the island. He's such a cool guy that he won't mind you writing to him.

Yes the surf at the Blue HAven is very good, my husband, son and me :!:
did loads of surfing their, the waves were big espcially after any passing storms.

We bought a body board in a shop in Scarborough, they had surf boards in their not sure on hiring thought.

Hi Bray,
Fully agree with Steve about Duane, his real passion is surfing and you will get some good info from him. BWI is an excelent base for diving too the diving off Speyside great so it could be a good base.

Kevin

Hi Bray,
I'm off to BWI at the end of the week (Limin' n' Divin')
All ask Duane about the surfing.

You could always go to Tobago for the diving and have a trip to the UK and go to Cornwall to learn to surf, there are loads of surf schools there.

Mind you the waters a bit colder.

Sorry Bray,
No Duane at BWI, he was away surfing!!!

We had a great time anyway the sea temp is up around 30oC

Tobago in the spring? Take your dive gear you've a good chance of seeing some big stuff, Mantas around Speyside and and hammerheads out at the Sisters.

Regards
Kevin

I thought you surf types were made of tuffer stuff, Cornwall gets up to around 16oC in the summer

Hi Annabelle,
I'll be posting a full report on the Holiday in a day or two.
But for now here are a few bits, When you go back everyone remembers you which is great. We had the same room as last year and it had had a refurbishment, mostly paint and soft furnishings but the AC had also been changed and was a lot quieter than last year. The Jetty has also been fixed since last year.

All the staff were really friendly as usual and even supplied my other half with some cold cure tablets when they found out she was suffering.

The only down side were the ants we got invaded by the little blitters on the second day and had to protect my wife’s chocolates by standing them on a glass in the middle of an ash tray filled with water

All for now I'm supposed to be at work.

Regards
Kevin
